question: armor upgrade

hello everyone and sorry for taking your times guys but i have a little question, since i reach iceborn(i am new by the way) i try to get a good armor to use but as soon i get the armor become useless(i do all i can to upgrade the armor max defence) i have a friend of me its using another armor and he its on the same stage as me but he have better defence tham i have, i was figting some sort of legiana and i die in 1 or 2 hits so idont know what i am lacking here, me armor looks like made of plastic at this point

compare you armor stats, compare your hp, do you eat a meal like he does? has he the healt skill which also gives you 50% more hp from basic, also playing a range weapon increases your physical damage income compared to using a melee weapon

i have do all that but unfrtatly i still die like i am a piece of trash, i cant keep on going, and i dont know what i am doing wrong here, i am using the Odogaron B and i have 721 of def and i wanted to try to augment the armor but its asking me things that i dont even know where to get, me friend told me he have almost 1000 def points and i see him figthing whitout taking too much dmg and me i die in 1 or 2 hits so i dont know what to do anymore

Start stacking up the health boost skill and make sure you are always eating at the cantina. You can also get divine blessing to help you out too. What weapon are you using though, are you dodging attacks consistently?

i always ate stuff, i try to rise me def as much as i can, i dont know what a divine blessing its and i am using true gae bolg build but whitout a good armor i am using a bow because the moment i get a hit its the moment i die

Also, if your playing a ranged weapon, your going to be squishier in general (besides elemental attacks)

i want to use insect glavial but i actually cant also, i die really fast

Insect glaive has pretty good survivability, but you have to dodge, either on the ground, or in the air :D

General tips, run health boost 3, if a certain fight is proving difficult, run the right type of elemental resistence (unless it doesn't use elements)

Divine blessing can save your bacon

And remember, your kinsect can actually heal you :D you just need to grab extracts from the tail :)

1000++ defense most likely a fully upgraded armor there (level 20 rarity 12 or level 27 rarity 10 armor parts)

Now then, after you crafted an armor part, you can upgrade the armor using the "upgrade equipment" option in the smithy for up to level 10 or somewhere around that.

Then you can further increase the level limit of that armor by using "augment equipment" of that armor part > unlock "ugrade limit removal"

Upgrading armor is obviously mandatory if you want to survive higher rank battles. Especially lower rarity armor parts could have so much defense difference.

Fyi, Odogaron armor beta+ helm initially has 140 def stat can be upgraded to 192 def stat at max level 27.

Now then, Odogaron Beta takes spiritvein gem and pure crystal to unlock its level limit. That can only be acquired from Guiding Lands at lowest from Lavasioth on level 4 volcanic area, but you maybe could get better luck from just beating any monster in any area at level 6 or even max level 7 provided you've unlocked the region level limit.

In Master Rank, at least til the point i'm right now: Doing MR 3* quests you can't survive more than 4 hits if you don't heal nor have HP Boost +3. I suggest you to grab HP Boost +3 and Speed Eating +2 or +3 and everytime you get hit 1 (major hit) or 2 (lesser hits) times, just chug a Mega Potion. Barioth took me 14 Mega Potion and 2 Max Potions to kill it the 1st time.

Honestly you should probably just use higher level armor it seems. The difference between 720def and 1000def is 3.5 bars of your health. Every 80 defense gives you +100% effective health. So at 720def you have 10 bars of health, and at 1000def your friend has 13.5 bars of health. You are dying faster because he has a good 700 health over you (assuming you have 200 health on your character sheet). Also using a bow means you lack the -physical damage taken effect.

Also, Defense affects elemental damage as well as physical damage. So just having like 20 resist will not save you if you are 240def below what the game expects you to have.

If your armor cannot be upgraded any more at the present point, you might just have to give up on it and use a higher rarity set, as their higher base defense will pull you up.
