Custom Upgrades?
Hello. I was wondering why custom upgrades are never talked about in build videos/meta videos. Is there some type of downside to them which is why nobody ever mentions them? I don't see a downside so I am wondering if its okay to use them or not. Thanks for any info! :demoticon:

Depends on the video .. i watched someone explain how to get 850 element on DPS and custom upgrades were the solution.
As far as i know there are no downsides, go ahead and upgrade your weapons.

They stopped being relevant once Rajang, Safi'Jiiva and Raging Brachydios + Furious Rajang came along, due to them only working on non-unique weapons. The only thing I ever used Custom Upgrades on was the Crimson Kadachi Lion HBG, giving it +5% Affinity. Said unique weapons that came along with the aforementioned monsters are really too good to ignore, with great flexibility, sharpness, base raw and decoration slots to back them up...more so than you'd ever get out of a slightly weaker weapon and its custom upgrade path.

Haven't had to use a non-unique weapon since...well, forever, since I'm a Hammer main and we've always had Grinding Mallet or Dawning Tranquility, both of which were unique.

I guess they might work on Kulve weapons, but I don't know about that.

They have no downsides except only working on weapons that are generally pretty terrible at this point - I'd mention that they tend to look really ugly but now you can layer weapons that's less of a problem, too.

It’s because the vast majority of meta weapons are “unique” and thus can’t be be custom upgraded. The only meta weapons that I’m aware of that have the ability to do so would be Kjarr elemental weapons.
