I'd guess a Normal Shelling lv7 weapon (usually safi one with maxed element up ) and your typical artillery, guard, guard up with element attack lv6 would have a good chance vs alatreon.
Also try evade extender lv3 if u have some spare slots, some alatreon moves are just not good to guard against.
But there's no secret on what weapons you should use, Kjaar King for ice Alatreon or Kjaar Stream for fire Alatreon. The set is full safi beta with challenger charm V.
Decorations is up to you, evasion GL is a good thing tho.
Just don't forget that your elemental damage comes from normal attacks, if you're having problems with escaton focus on normal attacks first then after you trip Alatreon you start your shelling. But the best scenario is to mix both, so wide shelling would be the best.
Nice to see another Gunlancer in 2% players.
I assume you refer to my comment, I mean its definetly not one of the best against alatreon due to these reasons.
1. Gunlance without shelling is weaker hell what makes it special is the shelling attacks, and u have to dismiss shelling attacks in order to pass the damage check against alatreon.
2. Unblockable attacks, like fire and ice floors will always deal damage to you that you can lessen by using evade extender lv3.
3. Other weapons just do better in this particular fight, IG breaks horns with Kinsect and keeps damage constant with elemental kinsect, DB/bow are known to be best for elemental dmg, LS's Long reach with okayish elemental values helps too, CB has elemental discharge, Switch axe with power element is a godsend vs alatreon, Multi-elemental LBG/HBG can change element based on current ice/fire active mode and so on.
But it is not impossible to do it with gunlance, hell u can use shelling attacks anyway and cart to Escaton Judgment in solo and still kill him, its just not the best weapon for the job.
Ditch guard , try the evasion + evade distant up combo instead , you probably have to learn how to dodge using side step but this is the fastest way to move yourself closer to the front leg and head .
Always target front leg and the head first and foremost , target the head while it is in dragon mode to break the horn .
If you are using Kjarr GL , you can use full safi set , if not , try 2 Velk + 3 Safi for the critical element .
The entire fight you gonna use the upper slash and the slam , they deal the most damage , forget the shell , it won't contribute to the elemental damage threshold .
It's still probably not enough to meet the dps check compared to just hitting with the slapstick over and over but hey, if you've got the opening for a full burst in there might as well take it.
Elemental shells could be an interesting weapon mechanic. Not like what we have now, which does tiny fire elemental damage on top of the usual fixed damage. It could work like a weapon mod, like with bowguns, where you just slap it on an elemental GL to change the element of the shell and boost its elemental damage. Lol idk.
