And unless you want to kill them on the first 'attempt', Alatreon armor is nice for fighting Alatreon. Break parts and use plunderblade. Don't worry about killing it. Gather materials and when you're confident in what armor you have, then make an actually attempt to kill.
Your skill is going to determine things in the end. And if you have 1-3 teammates and they are not good/are not running the right elemental, you'll have to play like a speedrunning god to makeup for them.
Fatalis unlocks after Alatreon so it makes sense that you wouldn't have it yet
Does everyone need to run the same element?
It's best if everyone runs the same element (ice for fire mode fire for ice mode)
To answer your question tldr; each player in a hunt (except the 4th) scales the game up. If you have a 2nd or 3rd player that is not pulling their own weight that they've added to the hunt, the other players are going to have to make up for it. So basically, yes.
I recommend just watching a video or looking up how it works but basically Alatreon starts in either fire active or ice active mode at the start of the fight. Whatever it starts on, you need to have the opposite elemental.
If it starts ice active, you use fire.
If it starts fire active, you use ice.
The hunt name/mission name varies, "blazing black twilight", "the evening star", "Dawn of the death star". That lets you know what element it starts on.
You need to do enough ELEMENTAL damage to alatreon (and the opposite of whatever alatreon starts with is obviously going to do more elemental damage), or the nova will kill you. You also need to break the head before it switches elements into the opposite of what it started with. Honestly typing this out is a chore so.
Just look it up.
