Can you get threat level 1 tempered investigation before finishing the main story?

Hi!

I'm HR14 and defeated 2/3 of the elder dragons you need to advance the story.

Purple marks keep showing up on maps for low tier monsters but I unlocked no investigations. Are they locked until finishing the main story or did I just have really bad luck?

The only purple mark you can collect before you finish the story is the elder dragon ones.

That's what I originally thought but you can certainly get more after you killed that particular elder dragon. Or maybe even after discovering it.

I ran around quite a bit collecting tracks from Pukei and Anja (if I remember correctly) in AF. No investigations yet...

I wouldn't worry about it, regardless. Tier 1 tempered stuff is hardly worth doing outside of the experience of fighting harder versions of certain monsters and to fulfill the requirements for the optional. Just finish up the story and go from there.

Your first encounter with tempered monsters is the HR29 double bezels. Until you finish that quest, you will not see any tracks from tempered monsters. If you see purple tracks in ancient forest before you finish the story, they should belong to kushala daora. I think you messed them up.

Yeah, wanted to farm up some Effluvia resistance decorations. I think I'll need them for the third elder dragon. Want o go in with 3/3.

Because the second one, Kushala, was a true nightmare. The #1 most annoying fight in the game so far. He isn't too hard or lethal, but the fight still took me almost 49 minutes. His crazy wind makes it so that you have very low damage up-time and spend most of the fight being knocked around for no good reason.

Are you sure HR29 doesn't unlock threat level 2 tempered investigations, with threat level 1 being unlocked either by HR14 or by finishing the story. Hence this thread?

To make it short, you can join t1 with hr13 if someone host them,
but the first encounter storywise you get are the double tempered B52. (threat level 2)

So far as I know, the only way you can join tempered quest before you finish the double bezels quest is through SOS or have your friends host the quest for you, but you can only join teir 1 tempered quest because teir 2 quest require HR30 or higher. So if you are playing solo like what I did, your first encounter with tempered monsters is the HR29 quest.

I don't know about investigations, but while tracking kushala daora in AF, my friend found tempered pukei tracks, will check with him later see if he got investigations

It turns out it is just one of those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ grindy elements of MHW: takes quite a few tracks to unlock one.

As far as I can tell, HR13 is required for tempered threat 1 monsters, you can find them yourself at HR14 and at HR29 you unlock threat 2 ones.

I even did the investigation and tempered Pukei is a pushover. I wanted to defeat him without getting hit, almost did it, but Anja crashed the party.

I ended up not farming the investigations and went ahead and beat Vaal Hazak with only 2 effluvia resistance. Was easy, only needed about 4 nullberies. He was quite unoffensive, but I appreciate a non-annoying monster.

Then I went ahead and beat the game. The last boss was striking as design and the zone was quite beautiful, but he does not do a lot, only has tons of HP.

I never heard of anyone farming him. Is he not important in the meta?

Anyway, the whole thread is a bit irrelevant because after I finished the main story, my HR got unlocked and jumped up instantly to HR28...

his bow is decent it have access to almost every coating, some parts of his armor give special armor boost, but is very niche
