Its hard to understand whats good at first, so its a good thing to search for best builds and see what you can do using those builds as base start.
Example: I found (reddit is a good source) a recommended build for the "x" weapon, but i dont have all needed, so you can switch some things, trying following the recommended build. Or you have everything but like to be somewhat safe while playing, then you want some divine protection, health boost, speed eating, etc, etc, etc. Usually Health boost should be enough, togheter with divine protection making you like a wall, more defensive decorations togheter this setup woulb be not necessary (at least for me). Really, when you start knowing the fight and knowing your weapon, you will be confortable to make builds less defensive.
You really don't need great damage unless you are speed running. Shaving off a couple of minutes of a fight won't help you when you are casually going though the story.
I think it is more important to counter the monster. I went into a fire based semi end-game monster (not tempered) with 34 fire resistance and random defense from fully upgrades pieces and he was a pushover. Things like roar resistance or stun immunity help more.
I'm transitioning right now from damage/defense to utility/comfort.
I would really recommand getting health boost 3 and going full DPS for everything else. The other skills are gimmicky at best or too expensive to be worth it (5 levels for earplug is a huge investment for a small reward).
- Defender Weapon / Wyvern Ignition as GS
- Nergi Head Alpha
- Teostra Mail Beta
- Teostra Hand Alpha
- Teostra Coil Alpha
- Nergi Legs Beta
- Attack Charm III
As pre Drachen build . This basically give u 85% critical chance with master tourch . Replace with 4 Drachen + Nergi Head later .
For Bows
- Rath Soul Head Beta
- Rathalos Mail Beta
- Teostra Hands Beta
- Odog Coil Beta
- Lavasioth Boots Beta
- Fitness Charm III
( For Dual Blade , Just Swap boots to Death Stench Beta . You can also swap fitness charm with Master Charm III if u are good at stamina management )
This gives u Critical element , Weakness Exploit , Spread shot , Constitution 3 , enough slot for necessary elemental attack jewels . Only core skill you are missing is “Bow Charge Plus”
For Charge Blade
- Dragonking Eye Patch
- Damascus Mail Beta
- Teostra Hands Beta
- Damascus Coil Beta
- Dodogama Legs Beta
- Artillery Charm III
This gives u Artillery 3 , Focus 3 and Capacity boost which is core skills for Spamming SAED in Impact Phial type CB .. Weakness Exploit 3 for Landing Damage .
Notes : the builds that I listed above are not meta and are considered as budget builds but they are perfectly fit for ur situation
If u are using Bowguns , reply me with what type of ammo u are focusing so that I can make a set for this .
And finally to answer ur question . Defender is a big **No** and using full armor set is also not a good idea .
I am using hbg with piercing and wvyren fire
Ok here it is
For pierce , Taroth Assault “Support” and Kjarr Assault “Water” are currently meta HBGs . But lucky for u , defender HBG serve the same purpose as the above two .
So
- Defender HBG V
- Nergi Head Beta
- Rath Soul Mail Beta
- Teostra Hand Beta
- Rath Soul Coil Alpha
- Kirin Legs Beta
- Heath Charm III / Artillery Charm III
This gives u
- Heath Boost 3 / Artillery 3
- Ammo up 3
- Weakness Exploit 2
- Maximum Might 2
- Pierce shot 1
- 5 x 1 tier deco slot and 1x2 tier deco slot
The skills that u are missing are
- Spare Shot and Minds eye
But this HBG having 8 ammo clip size pierce 3 with ammo up 3 , Spare Shot is not essential and can skippable especially when ur resources are limited . 3 Xeno alpha and beta pieces are not worth investing so wait till u got Gammas .
The only reason I am considering artillery 3 is due to ur request “Wyvern Ammo “ , actually Heath Boost lvl 3 is better but that’s ur game so play as u like
And when u have enough decos and streamstones , u have smth like this
https://imgur.com/gallery/F6N0BAV
80% crit chance with minds eye ! U can swap minds eye with maximum might or weakness exploit , depending on kinds of decos u have . Nothing fixed
Mods are generally
1 recoil suppressor and 2 ranged attack up
But if u feel like ur defense is lacking , u can add 1 shield instead of dual ranged attack up . And even swap charm to guard 3 charm for better guarding . Remember, be flexible!
Tweaking my build showed in imgur like
- swapping 3 expert decos with 3 vitality decos
- swapping health charm 3 with clear mind charm
- swapping minds eye with guard up and
- adding 1 shield mod will make you Arch Tempered Xeno Jiiva Killing machine . Allowing u to farm Xeno Gamma set by urself without crying about how randos are bad in AT Xeno quest in steam forum .
