Hammer isn't very skill hungry. Slugger is a trap - you don't get more stuns, you only get them faster - even with Slugger Secret 5 and that delightful +60% stun build up, you'll only be seeing 1-2 maybe 3 stuns in any given hunt anyway, so it's not really worth it - and since the armour you find it on is absolute trash, it's absolutely not worth considering.
I've never tried a Critical Draw build with a Hammer, nor Frostcraft, but I can't see Frostcraft being any good due to most Hammer attacks being multi-hit, meaning your biggest damage buff from maximum Frostcraft will be wasted leading to mediocre boosts on your final, bigger hits. You can position yourself so only your big final hits land, but it's too annoying unless the monster is immobilised, but you'll still be wasting DPS (unless the monster is asleep, of course)
I assume Critical Draw might be fun to use with its draw attacks if it includes the entire charge period as part of the "draw" attack, I.E drawing from sheath into a charge, charging up to level 3 and then unleashing a Big Bang attack? I've never tried it though, someone else should weigh in on this - I assume entering Power Charge will cancel the draw attack though, meaning you'll be attacking without a Power Charge which isn't that great.
Hammer benefits from the Airborne skill, +30% damage on aerial attacks is good, Hammer is very powerful in slide attacks and also ledge spamming (roll of ledge, charge Hammer, release charge, whack monster straight in the face, roll back off ledge, charge Hammer, etc etc)
Sometimes I like to put Affinity Sliding on my Hammer builds too, since the Hammer absolutely loves slides and slopes! Slide to victory, do a big full charge spinning slide attack for multiple 150+ damage, finishing up with a 600+ damage final hit in the combo...and then immediately do it again! You can even change direction away from the hill so you end up doing a sliding spinning attack UP the hill, it's good fun.
That's about all I can think of, really. Hammer is great, it has absolutely no skill requirements, and pretty much takes no skill to actually use
Since Capcom absolutely hates Non-Elemental in Iceborne, you don't even need to worry about slotting in Non-Elemental Boost anymore!
CC after lv3 charge attack = more damage
do the same with the sliding attack
learn the jump spam attack, ledges are your friends. When you spam that attack with airborne skill you can deal a lot of damage.
i already have so much fun in it. ist Insane. But my bf struggles a bit since he is on GS and i sometimes Launch him in the air mid Combo.
Or i even launched up all my premade Hunter Friends at once ist so funny.
Maybe just Maybe thats a reason too Why i picked up Hammer.
Haha ja i can imagine. But Landing all of them is sometimes Bit difficult for me
Don't stand still. Don't commit to any full combos unless you're sure that every attack will hit / that the monster won't move out of range of your hammer
spam the charge all the time. iirc the first charged attack is quicker than the normal attack, and
they both go into the same combo. If you're running out of stamina or want to cancel it, you can roll out of it.
You can extra-charge your hammer if you click the alternate attack button while charging it (hold R2 and then press circle on my PS4 controller; not sure what it is on KB&M). The extra charge will fade away only when you sheathe or if you get flinched / knocked back
only use the big bang combo if the monster is stuck (on the ground etc) and only if you're confident you can get all the hits off. otherwise, the full-charge attacks work just as well (the slam is good, especially if you follow up with the clutch claw. The spin is good too, especially if the monster's flailing around a lot and you're not sure you can hit them [looking at anjanath])
affinity slider + airborne = Fun
if you're struggling to hit the head of a monster (example, anjanath) make sure you're watching the monster's movements, and plan accordingly -> eg. do the full charge slam just as it turns around to face you
use the double-charged (uppercut) attack sparingly. I normally only use this to get closer to a monster, and only if there's no other players in the line of fire
you don't HAVE to hit the head all the time
Don't worry too much about actually stunning the monster, Especially in multiplayer. But it IS useful. (Kind of unrelated, but If you ever need Kushala materials, go solo with a hammer on a quest for it in the Elder's Recess. When it's in That One Area With The Big Slope, just keep on slide attacking it's face constantly until it falls, then do big bang on it's head / neck. If you can pull it off right, with the right set, you can basically stun-lock it there for almost the entire quest. It is epic)
Do note that the end of most combos' include an uppercut that will send people flying, both in front and behind you. (The hitbox is quite small though, and generally you can pull it off without hitting anyone even if they're right next to you)
Make sure to check the Weapon Guide in the Hunter's Notes in the in-game menu. Sometimes there might be stuff there you didn't realise existed
Don't be afraid to experiment in quests to find out exactly how big/small the hitboxes are ;)
Sorry for the wall of text, lol. but Happy hunting
Thanks for the wall of text, its realy helping me.
What do u think about frostcraft, like i made 2 builds one raw dmg one with aletreo nand frostcraft.
And at least in the training area i do a lot more dmg with frostcraft.
The exact same strategy would work with a Hammer too, however once again your entire playstyle in that case would desire ledge spam which isn't always an option. It could probably work and it'd be pretty damn fun, honestly.
Sorry I can't offer more info about Crit Draw / Frostcraft on basic Hammer play though, I've never been about that.
takes time chill you'll learn in time.. happy bonking heads tho
