What are beginner friendly weapons?
So I've played for about 30 hours now and I feel like I'm doing pretty alright with my current weaponset.

However, my friend is also picking up MHW and she generally isn't the best when it comes to complicated weapon and gameplay mechanics, hence why I'd like to ask what some good beginner weapons for her would be!

Thanks in advance! ^_^

i would say that Sword and Shield is possibly the best weapon for a beginner. You can attack fast and also block with a shield, if one is still getting used to the rolling

1 Hammer: Hit the Monsters head until it stops moving

2 Longsword: easy to learn hard to master/ weeb weapon

3 Dual Blades: Weeb weapon 2/ Naruto run

SnS is hard af

You have literally no range, ♥♥♥♥ dps if you don't know the combos in and out and hard combos.

Of course you can cut, stun, block and use items with your weapon drawn but you really need to know the weapon for it to be usefull.

Sns is usually mentioned in easy weapon lists but most people never played Sns and just heard that it was easy or have played Sns in older games and know the move set.

Most weapons should be easy to pick up. Except the switch axe, charge blade and possibly Hunting Horn. Those three are the most complicated in my opinion.

Greatsword? What? No, that's for experienced hunters only. You need experience to predict a monster and attack well.

A new hunter will obviously not be experienced enough, they most likely will spam uncharged attacks not knowing any better as well.

On the flipside, you could argue that since you don't have to focus so hard on learning the weapon, you can spend more energy on observing and learning the monster.

GS is an excellent choice IMO. It's what I started out with and it's really not that bad.

Low to medium difficulty weapons are :

Dual blades ( simple moveset nothing complicated)
longsword ( high reach, very rewarding, most popular weapon)
Hammer( high dmg and high ko with simple combos)
Greatsword( all about timing and knowing the monster moves)
Insect glaive ( learn to gather buffs and u are gud to go)
SnS ( use items while weapon is drawn, great balance between offense and defense)

Now for the hard ones that arent even recommended by the game :
Lance ( hard to deal dmg with)
Charge Blade (tons of.moves to learn)
bow and all bowguns ( squishy and factually bad at early game)
gunlance( takes time to learn all 3 typea of gunlances)

Hope thia clarifies things a bit.

Don't recommend either lance for newer players, the movement with it can be hard for someone to get a hold on. It feels slow to those who don't know how to use its kit effectively.

Lance has already been streamlined quite a bit in World. Now, learning how to use it the older gen games... that's a challenge.

I would kind of agree with that. You don't have to be doing constant damage with those weapons but if you get the monster downed or trapped; they can put a lot of hurt.

One weapon that I think is a lot easier than what people give it credit for is Insect Glave. I was intimidated by its aerial mechanics, but they are really are not that bad. Most of the combos are fairly easy. In LR, going aerial means that 90% of attacks will just miss you completely. There are the buffs, but I think they are easy enough to pick up and there is no other Gauge mechanic that you really need to pay attention too.

With that said, I don't know that there is an easy beginner weapon. By the same token, some of the more complicated weapons have some pretty easy combos that are effective in LR. Take Switch Axe for example. Wild swings while in axe mode is just mashing one button. You can kill most monsters in LR using wild swings or at least be marginally effective with a minimum of effort. Once you figure out how to Wild Swing, then you can go into either an overhead smash with the Axe or morph into the sword mode. Then when you figure that out, you can learn how morph back to axe mode and Zero Sum Discharge.

I would say that the best weapon is one that you are familiar with too as you can give pointers and advise on how to play.

SnS is such an odd thing for people to suggest as a beginner weapon.

Yeah, it's technically easy to use, but, to not spend 40 minutes killing any given monster, you've got to know it pretty damn well. Particularly once you get to taller monsters, like Anjanath.

Even with the nerfs to foresight slash, I'd still suggest longsword as a starting place if you want to do melee. Much better reach, can be effective with the simpler combos, without having to delve into the more complicated stuff like draw slashes, and has reasonable evasive capabilities even ignoring foresight slash.
