Guiding Lands: Does your region level go up if you join someone's online session?

Just wondering if you just get the mats or if your region level goes up as well

Standard is that your regions will change if you join another players GL. That said you are able too lock your own regions (fix) so that it won't. Ideally you will max out 2 areas, lock it, then join others as needed for the other 2 regions.
