Handicraft vs Attack Charm Help Please
I'm using greatswords and I a couple of them with white sharpness and purple inactive. I'm wondering if Purple Sharpness would be better than the +3 ATK Charm. Number crunchers anyone?

+ATK is the last thing you usually go for.

Attack is nerfed in iceborne... so the game gives me attack decos none stop lol...

IIRC, endgame, most of the weapons have around 250 base raw or the like. +attack ranks are worth +3 raw, so it's around +5% total DPS to use the attack charm vs no charm. Purple Sharpness is always at least 5.3% DPS increase compared to white (Purple sharpness won't bonk on some hits, so can be a much larger dps increase potentially), but does distinctly come at the cost of less total raw "uptime" on that damage up.

Overall, you'd probably get a higher raw damage up from running something like WEX, or far more valuably, Challenger charm. A max challenger charm is worth 16 raw and 7% affinity while a monster is enraged (Which you can ensure virtually 100% uptime on a monster's enraged state in Iceborne with the clutch claw). The final Agitator rank brings it to +20 Raw/10% affinity for one more 2 slot deco.

And @ Hurricane, Attack ranks aren't nerfed in Iceborne. It's just less valuable because total base raw has gone up, and %multipliers like crit and sharpness produce more raw DPS increases. WEX was nerfed (Partially, anyway. The fact you can make an entire monster a weak point sort of negates that standard weak point targeting is faintly weaker), but for the most part most of the meta changes are more a result of the increase in options, and weaker Temporals meaning survivability skills matter a bit more.

In the long run you'll probably be better with the Handicraft, as just 3 Attack Boost alone doesn't add much. 4 Attack Boost has the added bonus of +5% Affinity, but I'm still not certain that the Handicraft isn't better. Handicraft is particularly better if you're running Master's Touch/Razor Sharp where you get to keep the higher damage modifier for purple sharpness. (Though it should be noted the difference between purple and white sharpness is only .07 as far as the damage multiplier, but it may keep from bouncing on certain parts as well).

Sharpness scales and Attack Boost is flat, in most situations anything that scales is better, Attack Boost decorations/charms aren't as great as other, better scaling decorations/charms. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I'll just go farm some materials. So much easier killing HR stuff with MR equipment lol.

Would need to see your full build, but I'm pretty sure maintaining purple sharpness is significantly stronger than flat + attack.

So why he going to farm hr for decos???

A sliver of purple sharpness is useless if you don't have protective polish or high affinity with master's touch.

That being said, you're better off investing in agitator or coalescence.

A lot of weapons that have or boast purple sharpness doesn't have the raw numbers to even take advantage of the damage boosts from sharpness.

If you plan to maintain purple, or are fighting something you're bouncing from, go get purple. I don't remember the greatsword bloat number, but the 12 or whatever percent boost from purple might be better than the attack boost.

Not really nerfed, but attack values are so high, going for attack is irrelevant.
Crit all the way and once that is fulled, consider attack 4 or none at all.

It's 5% raw over white, which translates to 15 raw. It's almost always worth going for because Master's Touch exists.
