Monsters' Names in Chinese are Quite Interesting
Hi, just a random hunter from China here. I've been living in America for a while now. I play almost all of games in English, but for MHW, I'll have to go with Chinese. Why? Because I can't understand any damn names in this game in English.
Here's another discussion thread just so you and I know that we are not the only one: https://steamcommunity.com/app/582010/discussions/0/1643164649215818565/
Just to clarify, I didn't really do any research on this, only from personal experience XD.

So, why do I choose Chinese? I have couple of examples here:
- First time I saw Pukei-Pukei, I thought the monster pukes. I mean I wasn't wrong but who the hell knows if it pukes bloody poison.
Chinese: 毒妖鸟. 毒=poison, 妖=monster/banshee (colorful feathers?), 鸟=bird;

- Then we have Tzitzi-Ya-Ku. What the hell.
Chinese: 眩鸟, 眩=dizzy/dazzled, 鸟=bird good, now you learnt a new word :D ;

- Everyone's favorite----Bazelgeuse.
Chinese: 爆鳞龙, 爆=explosive, 鳞=scales, 龙=dragon
not gonna lie, almost all of monsters' names in Chinese ends with 龙/dragon, which kind make sense since every monsters are classified as different kinds of wyvern ;

- Nargacuga, ???
Chinese: 迅龙, 迅=agile/fast, 龙=dragon yep, then I know he's fast, not goo goo ga ga ;

- Pink Rathian, well I guess this one make sense but hey, check this out.
Chinese: 樱火龙, 樱=cherry blossoms, 火龙=fire dragon;

- Shrieking Legiana, Hmm.
Chinese: 霜翼风飘龙, 霜=frosty, 翼=wings, 风=wind, 飘=drift/float, 龙=dragon. Piece em together then we have: Frost Wings-Wind Drifting Dragon quite a google translate isn't it ;

- Jyuratodus
Chinese: 泥鱼龙, 泥=mud, 鱼=fish, 龙=you know what it means lol;

- Kulve Taroth
Chinese: 绚辉龙, 绚=gorgeous, 辉=brilliant/splendid, fit her style I would say;

- Velkana
Chinese: 冰咒龙: 冰=ice, 咒=curse, Dragon of cursed ice.

- Ruiner Nergigante
Chinese: 灭世灭尽龙, 灭世=apocalyptic/extinction, 灭尽=annihilation, piece them together yourself eh?

- Last but definitely not least----Shara Ishvalda.
Chinese: 天地煌啼龙, 天=sky, 地=earth, 煌=bright/brilliant, 啼=cry, 煌啼 are a pun to 皇帝 which means emperor, 龙=dragon. Then here we have that most badass name of all----Imperial Dragon of Sky and Earth.

Now you know why I choose Chinese XD.
Don't get me wrong, I do like many English names of the monsters: Deviljho, Diablos, Tigrex, Rathian/Rathalos, Lavasioth, Lunastra/Teostra, Xeno'jiiva, Zora Magdaros, etc.

A lot of the monster introduced in this game had their names just transliterated from Japanese. It's fine for most of them, but quite glaring for Jyuratodus and Beotodus since previous monsters they're related to have had their names totally changed for English. Though to be fair Mudsioth and Snowsioth don't have the same ring to them as Lavasioth.

Chinese and Japanese have the fortune of fitting an entire sentence into 4-6 characters, it'd be hard to put things like Imperial Dragon of Sky and Earth on the screen in English. I've always liked the names and descriptions of monsters much more in Chinese and Japanese, but I always put off learning either of them lol...
