Seriously, how to defeat Velkhana?
I find it near impossible to beat this monster, alone or in a party. Its ice breath attack is ridiculously strong, it's basically a one-shot in a wide and extremely long arc.

I have tried every weapon. I can't kill the monster. Maybe I'm missing something but this is, by far, the hardest monster I have ever fight in this game. It just plays in another league.

Any tip is welcomed, I'm getting a bit frustrated and I'm thinking about stopping playing the game.

Yeah... why would you get evade window whe nyou can get ice resist up to 20+....

Also, Doj, if you need iFrames vs Velkhana, yet you bragged about a sub 10 minute nergi kill................ XDDDDDD

I don't think that he said he use that but that he suggested it to the op that was having troubles... Besides, what's wrong with it? Almost feels like his victories bother you somehow.
His suggestggion is absolutely horrible and his suggestion is only speedrunner meta used by people that are actualyl experienced in the game unlike Doj here is.

Quite hard to understand if you dont read Doj's post history.

There's a few core rules to Velkhana that you should follow. First off, avoid the space in front of his head as much as possible if you're not comfortable. Velkhana's damage is largely locked up in the beam, and most of her attacks have narrow hitboxes in exchange for high speed and great range. If you keep out of her front, you're gonna have a much better time.

Luna's multi-thrust alternates positions. If it hit far, the next one will always hit close, and if it hit close, the next one will always hit far. This changes in enrage because she might also do a straight thrust as the third attack.

Velkhana has a dominant side, and is basically completely reliant on her right (Left side of your screen when you're looking at her head on). DO NOT CIRCLE TOWARDS HER DOMINANT SIDE. Her laser sweep starts from that side, her pokes, spins, and thrusts hit that side earlier. Avoid that side. always circle her towards your right and her left. With her face as 12, circle her counter clockwise.

STAY IN CLOSE. A lot of Velkhana's attacks are designed to zone you out or create space. If you can keep in close, do so. Claw is your best friend for this and can instantly gapclose on her from midrage while dodging tail attacks if you nail her head. Given how often she makes tail attacks, you can have it ready and the instant she starts the tell for one, grab her face and punish it.

^This. Do not tackle her head on. You do not want to be in her face. Stick to her sides. Strafe or dodge roll left or right. Wait for an opening. Her fight punishes the impatient.

If you're getting one-shot, then it's time to take another look at your armor and skills/decos. Vitality 3 is a MUST here unless you know the monster inside and out. Equip the Fortitude jewel as well, so if you do cart you have more defence and attack. Try to use equipment that has Stun Resist as well if you find yourself being thrown around. It will stop or severely reduce the duration of stun. If your armor's Ice Resistance is in the negative swap pieces around until you get pluses to it, or eat for elemental resist. If you have them, bring the Temporal Mantle and the Iceproof Mantle.

Bring Max Potions and the materials to make more on the go (Mega Nutrients and Mandragora's.) Customise your crafting wheel so you can quick-craft things on the go. Same for Dust of Life (they're faster to use than regular potions, though bring those with you anyway. ALWAYS have Dust of Life on you, especially if you plan to group up.) Bring Dash Juices as well, you'll be evading a lot, and evading costs stamina.

Other than that, here's a vid that may help. I had the same troubles as you at first, though managed to tough through it.

Nah, Its horrible advice.

You'rer far better off mixing barrioth, banbaro and beotodus armor and put in ice res jewl to deal with blights. No need for iceproof mantle that way and you can use vitality+, which ytou should have considering this is story content its not really about 'proper' builds for getting through a story part. Evade window is not gonna help you on this. Most peopole die because they havve to keep eating nulberrys.

Took me what, 12 minutes or so with DB from Rathalos. I dont have guard, nor do I use evade window, or extender, The side AOE she does at a 20-130 degree angle is perfectly rollable w/o evade window. Its one of the easyest to roll through. The only time I get hit is if my camera messes up, but I barely do.

This is how I beat him (though it may not be the most ideal way or whatever):
Palico had Moltov Cocktail and kept his attention. I had lvl 5 defense charm, temporal mantle, and vitality mantle. Decoration focus was Protection lvl 3, critical eye, resuscitate, agitator and part breaker. Dodge dodge dodge. Seriously. Those ice attacks can suck. I went in with greatsword. My best fire one wasn't fully upgraded but it was the glavenus one. If you don't think you have much stamina chug a dash juice. Spam your palico skills. Dodge as often as you can. It may take longer. I personally always use bombs. If he moves on the map restock anything you've used up. Personally I'm notorious for not upgrading my armor or getting new armor but that's my bad habit. He can be a pain, but spend some time getting familiar with his moves and then deciding which attacks to avoid most and which ones you think you can take if you have a melee weapon. When in doubt retreat and recover. Demon pills and anything for defense can help too.

Your cat did all the damage mate, aerial is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in any given instance. Airborne doesn't even affect your baby spins. Why don't you troglodytes just learn how to use the weapon correctly and save yourself the public embarrasement?

The only embarassment if any is that this community has ppl who talk without knowledge.

I am IG main, I do ground, air, mix, any tricks and gimmicks using IG all I have done. I watch IG speedruns for each monster to see how ppl take down monsters fastest. And with those I can gauge aerial IG as I see it in this case. The damage is quite alright, not speedrun material but stress free killing Velkhana with relatively high safety. Good to level up palico, tailriders, gadgets etc playing single player.

And I know for a fact that my cat's rathomew does around 80 damage a hit on head at best, he equip it like every 5 mins, doesnt last long. And in comparison, on that setup my quick air slash (no red buff) do around 60 on wing, dive attack do 120 on head, spin finale do 120. From 1 jump I can do 3-5 quick hits or 2 spins and before ending with a dive, if without dash juice. A set of these only take like 10 secs to finish before resetting. So I know for a fact that "Your cat did all the damage" is merely empty assumption in this case. The numbers factually say otherwise.

If all you know about aerial IG is tiny numbers on early-mid part of aerial spin, you dont know aerial IG. Let people who actually know it talk about it, thx.
The issue with aerial is that you rely so heavily on that final hit to do any meaningful damage, just like you said. The new descending thrust or whatever is actually decent plus it marks, but that doesn't change that grounded is straight up better. Velkhana isn't a particularly big monster and moves around quite a bit, so I'm having a hard time you did Velk in 20 minutes with the ebony odo glaive of all things if you did strictly aerial moves. Were you using a blast kinsect and buffing it? I know ebony odo glaive has the spirit + stamina buff, so that could probably rack up some really nice damage overtime.

According to similar threads from reddit in around ps4 launch:
you want high ice res for velkh most of its damage is ice element, speed eater is really good due to speedier healing, evade extender is nice as it makes rdodging through the ice breath (Right to left) easier.
Velkhana hits hard and first but chains its attacks figure out what combo its going to do next and your golden.
got her to her last legs on the second try with theese tips in mind, keep trying and you will get her eventually.

pierce HBG with guard up. if you dont have it , fire LBG or fire bow. velkhana fight is not very enjoyable imo. dont forget vitality3 , and i recomend divine blessing, you dont deal too much damage in a cart.

I fought it with a lance with guard up and I had zero problems. Just remember to raise your ice resistance

My favourite setup for velk requires frostcraft crit draw gs. Unfortunately you need to farm velks equip first.

It's nice and easier.

IG with blast kinsect is awesome too. Stagger all days. Just don't copter around. Vault over the breaths and land with the new move and continue the combo on the ground.

Health boost 3, spead eating, icemantle with your avarge dmg crit stuff and you should be set.

If you're getting one-shot the issue isn't your weapon, its your armor. I didn't have any issues using my Barioth set.
