Crash on Startup?
My game crashes the moment I try to launch it (window pops up, stays black, then I get crash notification) and I don't seem to be able to fix it myself. I was able to play it in December just fine, but I have since then upgraded from Win7 to Win10. I believe this might be at fault.

Here are some things I've tried:
- Reinstalling the game
- Updating my graphics drivers (GTX1060)
- Remove any and all FAR (Nier Mod) references on my PC. (including DInput8.dll)
- Run as administrator
- Change the Power Mode of my desktop to Ultimate (recommended by reddit post)

Any other suggestions as to what could solve this?

Turn off Ultimate performance mode, its just high performance mode except more optimized for databases, workstations, or servers. Even if you have a high end PC, you wont need to use Ultimate performance for gaming unless you like space heater and high energy bills

Check if dx12 is on, if it is turn it off
Also delete every file except the base folders on the MHW folder and verify game integrity from steam, delete nativePC as well

Go window bordeless.

Hi, so I tried Deleting all game files, check the integrity of the game files as well, but it didn't solve my problem.

How do I turn off dx12 before entering the game? It crashes the moment I boot it up.

Same with Window Borderless, how do I enter Window Borderless before entering the game (although I'm almost certain this is the setting I used anyways).

Hello,
I thinl they are an ".ini" file in the MHW path you can edit to turn of directx 12.

So I check the .ini, and I had dx12 turned off and I am playing in borderless mode. These don't appear to be the problem :(

Any other suggestions?

For reference, I use an i7-3770K CPU with 8GB ram, the recommended processor. However, I saw online that 3rd gen processors might have problems and thus I was wondering if this could cause issues (but it would be weird for the recommended processor not to work, also, it worked in December).

Yes,
you are not alone in this situation when you read forums... :(

I actually had this same problem, but I still havent been able to figure out what was causing it other than the fact that the Iceborne patch was the big change that started it.

What I did that actually fixed my issue was do a reinstall of Windows 10 by using the W10 media creation tool and reinstalling with the option to remove apps but keep personal data and files. Now MHW launches up just fine for me. My issue right now is the same as everyone else with the 100% CPU bug.

If nothing else you can do to fix this works, try seeing what apps and programs you might have installed since December and uninstall them and see if that fixes this issue. If nothing else, then a reset/reinstall would help fix the issue.
I got this same issue and the game was working fine yesterday - think it's to do with the new patch but you arent alone

Are you running multiple screens? I had the same issue when I tried running the game in windowed mode, changing it into fullscreen worked. Later on I disabled and enabled my 2nd screen and tried windowed mode again and it worked.
Also make sure to turn dx12 on when you are running it in win10, performance should be so much better.
As for cpu usage, the biggest help for me was changing frame limit of the game. 60fps runs at 85% cpu and 30fps runs at 50% cpu and I use a cpu from 2011.
Hope that helps

Interesting findings, I will keep note of frame limiting. Can probably set that up in the new AMD 2020 Adrenalin software or use BandiCam.

Thank you soooooo much, got back to MHW after a long hiatus and couldn't run my game. This worked for me.

I'm recently having a similar issue. When I start the game, it'll be in black screen for a moment, then it'll CTD without any message. I've tried everything I found on the internet: Delete the mods, adjust the settings, update my PC, even reinstalling the game. Still hasn't fix it. Anyone can tell what happened? It ran fine last night and even hunt Fatalis once.

Can you take a screenshot of what you mean by "base folders" and what do you mean by nativePC?
