The attacks that you're using to get mounted on the monster count as airborne.
Any attacks performed while in the air without your feet on solid ground count as aerial attacks, and a monsters back counts as solid ground as far as the game is concerned.
Smashing big monster in side of the head with a hammer when mounted = not airborne.
Sliding down big hill into a flying catherine wheel of doom = airborne.
Et cetera. Most (all?) airborne attacks do mount damage, and when the threshold is reached you will initiate a mount, even if your character was already on the ground when it happens due to lag or weird animation sync, lol. I'm not sure if Clutch Claw attacks count as aerial, by the way - Hammer has one that mimics their sliding aerial attack, but I don't think it does any mount damage or can mount.
To OP: Airbone affects every mounting attacks and also attacks that are done in the air, like Insect Glaive and Lance jumping attack. Longsword's Helm breaker however isn't affected by airbone maybe because when the attack register, your character is already on the ground.
Only the 'Jumping Slash' it seems
Clutch Claw mounting attack does NOT count as Airborne.
Mostly Hammer bror use this skill for sliding spin attack.
Try it yourself in training ground, HBG Wyvernsnipe is the best to test since it shows single digit.
