Controller Disconnects
I'm having an issue where my controller will randomly disconnect from MHW and stop working. I am able to control it fine with keyboard and mouse when this happens and my controller is still connected fine. After a couple minutes my controller will start working again.

This seems to only happen in MHW, never had it happen in Dark Souls or any other PC game where I use a controller.

Broken cable, time to get a new controller.

It's wired Xbox controller.

Only happens in MHW and the controller continues to work even while I can't use it in game. For instance I have a push to talk on the controller for Discord which continues to work the entire time.

Still think it's a broken cable as that kind of errors do suck and are hard to trace.

However in very rare and odd cases things like that can also be cause by the steam controller settings, go to steam settings -> controller and uncheck anything with emulation.
mhw has native support for xbox controllers, so no emulation needed anyway.

Wired Xbox? Broken cable, you need to disarm the controller and fix it.
Search for a video where it shows you how to solder it.

It might be related to my issue.

My MHW game won't register my 360 controller's inputs half the time.
The ones it does read tend to stick (like the character continuing to run in a direction for a couple seconds after I let go of the stick)

I have the similar problems with my Xbox One Elite controller. It either stop working, or it lock the analogue stick in one direction, my character start to move 360. Very annoying when it happened in battles. I thought it was because ofcontroller vibration, and I heard the Elite contorller has had problems with MHW. I'm not sure how to fix. Turning off vibration doesn't seem to fix it, but if I put the controller on my desk and it start to vibrate it's a gurantee it will stop working.

I still haven't found a fix but I have confirmed it's not the controller by replacing it and playing other games. It only occurs in MHW and with more than one controller.

Turn your mouse upside down and then try it

Hmm if it's wired i don't know.
I had the same problem, i use the wireless xbox one controller with the wireless adapter, i fix it by disabling the wireless adapter "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Try maybe using Special K fix. And disabling mouse & keyboard.

I'm still running into this issue, even with a PS4 controller, wired and wireless.

Could possibly be a bad cable, try swapping it if you can but I've had the same happen to me lately when i play. But its more like it stops responding to inputs or there is long periods of input lag. Could just be the game needing to be optimized at some point that could possibly fix the issue.
