Only Lance and Insect Glaive have the extra step. IG because aiming normally is how you aim the kinsect, Lance because it has the special guarded slinger stance. All other melee weapons can just aim and fire the claw.
The situation for Ranged weapons is similar, they have a default aim, so you have to toggle between the weapons itself and the slinger firing mode.
Regarding my current bindings?
Melee:
V : Aim (Hold)
X : Aim (Press Once)
C : Toggle Slinger Aim
LMB : Normal Attack / Clutched Weapon Attack
RMB or E: Special Attack / Fire Claw / Claw Attack
Ctrl : Guard / Special Action / Fire Slinger / Flinch Shot
Ranged:
RMB : Aim (Hold)
X : Aim (Press Once)
C : Toggle Slinger Aim
LMB : Fire Ranged Weapon / Flinch Shot
E : Special Attack / Fire Claw / Claw Attack
R : Reload / Clutched Weapon Attack
Ctrl : Melee / Dragon Piercer (effectively E + R)
A couple of things though:
1. You can disable the camera locking/snapping functionality.
Options -> Camera -> (Page 2) -> Camera Style -> Set to 'Do Not Focus'
2. 'Toggle Slinger Aim', as its name suggests, is a toggle so you just tap it to activate and deactivate it. Don't hold it.
3. You have to 'Toggle Slinger Aim' after aiming, but it can be done almost immediately after, with a bit of practice getting the timing down you can get the claw out very quickly. It's why my bindings make it X(press) or V(hold) to aim, then C. For Lance I can press:
X -> C -> RMB -> X or V
To very quickly fire the claw out then put the reticle away.
