Keyboard+mouse or gamepad?
What's best to play with?

Most people will say controller.. and mouse is currently messed up(mostly in town) so prob better off with controller... but personally i like the keyboard and mouse mostly for item management... definately have more character controll with a controller

I prefer controller, and I love MH games so being familiar with a controller enables me to also play previous games more comfortably(usually play on emulators nowadays: Citra, PPSSPP in particular) which never had mouse & keyboard support.

My first play through was with Mouse and Keyboard with the Great Sword. I did it mostly for the superior camera controls. (Hate controlling 1st/3rd person cameras with game pads)

But when trying to more mobile, or faster weapon types, I found the Mouse and Keyboard lacking, so I'm trying my second play through with my pad. Camera is worse of course, but I feel like my combat controls are a bit better.

The direction of your attacks are based off of where your camera is facing, not your character; so mouse+keyboard should theoretically be better.

Controller and even then you need to tweak the button configuration to get something comfortable. I play with a wired power A switch pro controller ($20 at walmart and works great). You can find some good button configurations on youtube and reddit if you google it just find one that feels good for you. Still WAAAY better than keyboard+mouse imo

Both.
KB+mouse for ranged. Controller for melee.

I found M/KB to be better because you need to control the camera a lot.

controller. People who say otherwise are just plain wrong. Just try it yourself.

Whatever you are used to. It's a Japanese game so the mouse controls can be a little rough if you don't play around in the settings. Honestly I prefer to use KB+M

KB+M cause of the camera controls but it's very clear they tacked it on to a controller based system.

Holding buttons and pressing other buttons to activate things is just bonkers on a keyboard. We have a dozen buttons within reach of one hand and a few more on the mouse.

You can't separate some of these to do one key press because some functions are multiple binds depending on what key is held. Some weapons are worse than others.

With a free look mouse based camera you should be able to tap 1 button for slinger, another for claw without entering some aim mode since we're always in aim mode.

Mouse+keyboard for ranged (not actually playing the game), controller for everything else (correctly playing the game)

So, controller

Controller but I am probably very biased on that because well first monster hunter on pc that I know of and all the times i've played it's been on controller.

I prefer KB+M but I use that for pretty much everything and have never really got the hang of the controller. Try both.

mouse and keyboard sir because this is pc verison.

I use KB+mouse for 95% of the stuff I play, but I just find the Xbox controller to be superior in every way for this game.
