Has anyone been busted using mods?
I haven't modded before, and I've read multiple times that Capcom has been very neutral with mods that don't affect or ruin other players experiences when in a multiplayer hunt. But looking through available mods I see some great quality of life overlays, like make drops more noticable and monster size. But then, theres making every item in the shop cost 1 zenny and everything you sell in worth 25k. Where does Capcom draw the line and do they of active anti-cheat software for this kind of thing?

They don't draw a line. Their stance is "If a mod breaks your game, it's your problem", and that's it.

yes they ban you, why do you think they use denuvo
People frequently have issues launching the game, or things not working properly in game, because the game gets updated and their mods don't.

Capcom doesn't care that people use mods, or "mods", but they also take no responsibility if you screw up your save file or something.

People complain on every title update that their game breaks, but fail to realize that they need to remove their loader mod or other mods in need of updating. As long as you are smart about it and don't go writing in the game's files or code there should be no way of negatively impacting your save. And Capcom can't ever ban because drawing the line which mods to ban for would be a PR disaster for sure.

Nope.

Capcom doesn't care - they're true neutral. Their stance is such that you're responsible for your own stuff when you begin modding, if say they cause you to lose a 1000 hour character due to an update on their end, they aren't responsible for it at all, etc.

Griefing and cheating and exploiting and generally being a little scab is purely restricted by each persons individual morals - and if they're visible enough to be detected and kicked, etc. Capcom has anti-cheat in place to try to prevent players from one shotting monsters, editing equipment to insane values, breaking monsters to pieces in one hit, etc etc, but all that does is CTD the game or kick you offline immediately, and is woefully ineffective against anyone who wants to grief others, sadly.

No bans have been documented, and honestly I don't think they ever will.

As far as the community goes, bear in mind, certain types of mods are somewhat taboo and not everyone appreciates people using them - in singleplayer no one cares at all knock yourself out, although plenty of people will use their right to express their negative opinion on X mod, sure - but using certain ones in multiplayer is always dicey and hit or miss.

tl;dr Capcom doesn't care, and there's nothing the community can do stop you either despite overwhelming disdain on the contrary, etc.

I use cosmetic mods all the time. Not really a problem unless I use a mod that points to the wrong textures, then it looks like I have missingno in my party lol.

lolno

They won't actively ban users who use external modifications as far as I know, but they don't officially support it either and you should use them at your own risk.
I've seen a lot of very serious issues reported by users that were caused by mods and these can't be fixed. Story progressions being broken, cutscenes not appearing and crashes are all issues that I've seen being reported and uninstalling the mods did not always fix them and the developers can't assist you either if the issue was caused by mods.

I'd recommend not installing them and just playing the game strictly vanilla to prevent any bugs and issues from ruining your playthrough.

As long as you don't install out of date mods, and install the correct ones in the correct way you game will be fine.

It's anecdotal but I have been playing with mods for most of my time my time playing and I have never encountered an issue either ingame or online.

Can definitely confirm this: I have tried multiple times to report people who have obviously used hacks or cheats with definitive evidence that they cheated some aspect, but none of them have come to fruition (unless it takes months for a report to come through which it might)

Most cosmetic mods tend to be fine as far as I'm aware but I've recently seen an issue for example with a mod that made monster drops more visible.
It caused this particular users cutscenes to not start at all and there's no way to get these cutscenes back unfortunately.
It's so hard to determine whether a mod will cause an issue or not and the issues might not even be related to the content that the mod adds or changes.

You can take all the correct steps concerning the installation and downloading of the mod and still get these issues when playing.
My recommendation is not to use them as the risk is simply not worth it, though other people might disagree on that and find the risk to be worth it.

I mean I'm pretty sure I could edit my stats to their max caps, have 9999 of every item including decorations, make my weapon have 5000 raw with a solid bar of purple sharpness, have 3 size 4 decoration slots on every piece of armour and weapon, possess infinite stamina, a mantle that has all effects and never runs out, use mods which make Critical Eye 1 give 100% affinity, have every monster killed on my Guild Card at Mini Crown Size 1 and Gold Crown Size 99,999, have 999 million Zenny and Research Points, having every single buff in the game active all the time with infinite duration while joining other players and one shotting everything in sight and teleporting all over the map AND have every Arena challenge quest cleared in a nanosecond on the high scores all while using the most NSFW nude mods with a vulgar player + Palico name and Guild Card title + message..

..and I'd never get banned or even noticed by anyone in an official capacity at Capcom HQ.

I'd end up blocked by A LOT of other Steam users though! I'd also not enjoy the game at all for what it was and get bored within an hour for sure - which I'm hopefully optimistic is the fate of most people who grief and cheat on this game anyway, removing them from the gene pool quickly (which is why you almost never see them)

No one has and we're ahead enough to say with 100% conviction that no one ever will.

if you wanna mod the game mod the game, capcom won't do anything but it's on you if you mess up your game :p

anti-cheat/anti-tamper exists but people found a way around it after just 1 day and consistently update to keep mods working
