Is it illegal to transfer my cracked save file over, after i bought the game?
Hi;

I just bought the game and would like to know if It's illegal to use my cracked game save file?

I had been playing the game normally, without granting myself OP items or cheating through the game. Although I used the save editor once just to compensate for 10 hrs that I lost by power outage.

P.S: I played for only 60 hrs, so it's not much, nor have I reached Nergigante even, but I don't want to waste precious time running through everything again.

Define "cracked"

Do you mean a save you have on an illegal copy of the game you were playing elsewhere? So long as you've bought Monster Hunter World nice and legally (which it looks like you have) there should be no issues here, consider the previous stuff you playing a "demo" of sorts.

If you mean just a generic save file you've cheated on or edited using third party tools, yeah no one cares, go nuts. People have been swapping out "master files" that have 100% of the base game content done anyway just to play Iceborne, so I'm assuming it's easy enough to do, and likely nigh undetectable too.

It may work. It may not. Just know that certain Steam achievements will be unaccessible without starting all over again.

Considering the fact its not going to work because encryption was changed? Its not illegal, but its not going to work.

People misuse "illegal" a lot.

Question is... how do you lose 10 hours due to power outage when the game autosaves every time you finish a quest?

Unless you spent 10 hours straight in the same expedition?

Save file failed to load, thankfully I had a backup 10 hrs earlier in another folder.

If that was the case then we would have all lost our saves when the encryption changed
There’s no reason a save from a past version wouldn’t work

Meh. Illegal / Illegitimate. Couldn't find a better word at the time for it :steammocking:

Wasn't meant literally, I.E you're off to the gulag tier, etc.

Assuming it even loads up then it's fine. The opinion of random people on the internet shouldn't matter and you bought the game so you do you.
There's also no ban system in place so do what you want though obviously blatant cheats that ruin someone else's game experience is a big nono etiquette-wise.

Mhw saves use steam id for identification i think. If that steam id mismatch between your games and your saves, something bad may happen (ive heard people get banned for copying saves of other person). Now, your cracked game will probably use the crackers designated steam id, and not yours. Copying it willy nilly will provably result in something bad, unless you tamper with your save data first using a save editor or something... which still does not exist for iceborne yet. So yeah, i recommend you start fresh, and cheat your way till where you are right now
