Low Rank: Baan Ball or Kitty-of-the-Valley Rod

High Rank: Baan Ball a or Kitty-of-the-Valley Rod a

Master Rank: Baan Ball a+ or Kitty-of-the-Valley Rod a+

There's a few event weapons like the Butterfly Wand, Book and Maestro Rod that offer similar but slightly inferior effects, too. Also, if Paralysis and Sleep aren't your thing, consider giving them a Blast or Poison status weapon instead. Favour status over element or raw damage, your Palico is purely support and not offense with its gadgets, unless you like using Palico Rally 5 or whatever.

As for armour, wear whatever you think looks cool on your Palico. I still use High Rank Vaal body on my Palico in Master Rank and I haven't seen it "die" in hours upon hours.

As for Palico Gadgets, you'll unlock those as you explore regions and check out the various Lynian / Grimalkyne tribes there. Your choice of gadget will largely depend on your playstyle, but for me I find the Meowlotov Cocktail and Coral Orchestra the ones with most long term value, however the Vigorwasp Spray and Plunderblade are also good to use until you've learned a monster or acquired enough materials, etc. Shieldspire is okay, nothing bad about it, but it loses out against the other gadgets just based on utility. In my opinion, anyway.

Palico doesn't play as big of a part in gameplay, it's mostly there for support and diverting attention.
Just keep it's armor up to date so it doesn't die as easy (Free to choose whatever), and probably a Status weapon to allow it to Sleep/Paralyze/Poison/Blast proc the monster.

build a palico humm thats a new thing. I just slap some fun armor looks on him and the only thing that I would be considered what you can choose that is good on him/her is either paralyze or sleep weapon.

Get the Palico Gadgets as early as you can and try to level them up. :)

not a fan of sleep but maybe thats because i never played with people (just purchased the game to play with some friends soo guess il give sleep status a try)

paralysis however is something id definetly get but i can also get flashbang/trap gadget for the palico.

as for the event stuff they are one time only or i can still get them?

I'd like to point out Shock Traps and Paralysis are 2 different things.
They don't diminish eachother

Same, I never bother with Sleep and I use big hitting "wake up!" weapons and always carry barrel bombs, etc.

However it's more popular now Iceborne is out because it resets the monsters enraged status, so you can get an easy flinch knockdown on monsters with no effort at all, which is another stun and another damage opportunity, not to mention the damage from walls being great + often breaking parts you'd have trouble breaking normally, I.E Lunastra's wings.

Also popular for the Grinding Lands, giving you breathing room to pick up any monster drops before they disappear.

Even with those two boons, I still don't bother with Sleep. Paralysis is fine and dandy as it is.

Only flaw is you might often watch your Palico Sleep or Paralyse monsters out of a stun, knockdown or a mount, which really sucks when it happens but eh, what can you do?

Also Events will always come back around, they usually all appear in a huge chunk every 3 months into a standard year as part of their Seasonal Fests, but they also rotate around outside of these fests too, just keep your eye on the schedules etc.
