Luna has always been stupid in this game to be honest. Like genuinely stupid.
Idk if anyone has mentioned it but you can eat astera jerky during her nova and is pretty much a max hp potion since nova only deals red hp damage. Also if you get knocked down during the nova make sure you don't get up so you can save some hp.

Luna has traditionally never been a fun fight. What you do is just KO spam and if she nova's you either time the dive or eat the cart and start over. There's two versions now, the directed nova and the true nova that will one shot you if you get caught in its wake.

The issue here isn't if its avoidable or not, there are weapons that will struggle for it, stuff that takes a long ass time to sheathe like HBG. You can't weather the nova in fireproof mantle anymore, the tick damage is enough to kill you esp if you're in ground zero (if you're melee that's a very good chance)

That's why I don't really farm Lunastra's. Waste of time. Much more efficient to farm gold/silverlos 7 minutes in and out.

PS:
It's extremely satisfying to have a healer in the back with a HH windproof buff up, spamming heals while you stand your ground shooting in in the face in the center of the nova. But for solo play? There are better things to fight.

I played a SOS Lunastra once and the whole team had wide range and we kept choking on mega potions every time a nova came. It was hilarious, but it worked

Something tells me you'll love soloing the MR 125 quest, Hymn of Sun and Moon :D

I have finished all of the optionals atm, and doing the MR 125 Quest is quite easy cos I don't have to fight both of them together.
Just don't ever fight 2 of em together.. It's a total nightmare..
The one I fought in GL was a Tempered Gold Ian + Normal Silver Los though.
I carted like almost 10x because those 2 won't stop attacking one after another. I had to rely on my palico to deal some damage on them, before finally the gold ian limped away to be captured and the silver los ran away.
You can try to summon a gold ian or silver los whenever u r in GL if one of em is already there.
Try to fight em together solo if you want to have the same experience.

Honestly, I would have just left, that doesn't sound worth the frustration.

I dont want to sound like a ♥♥♥♥, but i think alot of players dont enjoy lunastra because they can't be bothered to even try preparing for lunastras attacks. There are so many solutions to the nova, or ground flames that it often surprises me people complain so much. I remember fighting her for the first time and getting creamed as well, but after that looking into how to counter her and finding the fight much more fun. Alot of people complain about the nova but you seriously mitigate that vast majority of it with just fireproof mantle. And if you give the excuse that its not up( but it honestly should be for just about every nova if you are even doing moderate damage) you can superman dive to avoid the nova damage if you keep doing it through the attack. I learned it, my friends learned it, anyone can learn it.
If you haven't dive for any reason, and fireproof mantle is not available, astera jerky will save your life, it will restore all your red damage instantly like eating a max potion. Just try it. I use it with my healer build, no one dies even during nova.

There are simple solution with her fire nova. You can force it to came with flashes. Make some distance to avoid damage, flash her, Luna will use nova and you'll have about 3-4 mins till she goes on fire next time.

git gud
simple there is 3 builds to counter lunastra why dont u search for them to know whats good against luna.
Using flinch free and windproof with fire resistance will trivaliaze the fight entirely as Lunastra relies on flinching to lock you up into attacks, without her flinches she's actually less threatening than Teostra, this allows you to focus on doing damage and causing staggers, elderseal also helps stop the Nova but simply backing away nulfies it as it's super telegraphed. This setup makes her one of the easiest bosses in the game and the Silver Rathalos set gives most of these skills along with generous gem slots.

If she is spamming super nova it usually means you are not doing enough damage.
Or abusing flash bombs... Don't fkig flash lunastra, you're asking for it if you do!

I totally agree with this. Lunastra and Teoatra are two of the easiest elder dragon fights simply because I use elderseal. I personally run the nergigante hunting horn, and the elderseal effect procs so often that if a fight goes well, she literally never supernovas because I elderseal her out of her "fiery" state, even if I'm the only one using elderseal.

I know no hardly anyone bothers to do this, but if you run a hunting horn with windproof on it (the Shara ishvalda horn works fantastic since it is also great at procing eldersealig) the fight becomes EXTREMELY trivial for the entire team.

Anyways, I really enjoy the fighting the Lunastra, (even if I can't be bothered running a counter build), and I seriously don't get the point of complaining about monsters.
