How does one unlock the Elder Dragon or Kulve Taroth layered armours?

So far the layered armour I've unlocked have come from defeating their respective monsters in the Guiding lands, but I'm not sure how to get Elder Dragons to spawn there or if that's even possible. Looking to get the Vaal layered armour specifically but would like to get Nergi and Teos ones too.

On the other hand I've never fought Kulve as I've mainly played the game solo so any idea how to unlock those layered sets too? Struggling to get any good answers on google.

I'm on ps4, and have several layered armor options. Including but not limited to elder dragons, gama included. However, these are all listed under low/high rank. The only master rank layered armor I have available are the ones I got for pre-order, a couple head pieces like the eye patch and glasses, and the Astral that came out with the Grand App Fest. I do not regrettably have options for a Kulve set. Im sceptical they with release many master rank sets, as the gama elder dragon sets under high rank include for one, the tickets you receive for the arch temp event quests, as well as master rank matts. The gama Xeno set even used Safi parts to craft. So I'm worried they won't be a thing, but here's hoping. :D

Ignore those that say otherwise, the team has already confirmed and completed the implementation for the MR Layered Armor, and they will be rolling out between the next two patches

All indications are that MR Elder Gear will be unlocked via MR Arch Tempered Elders

They may come out with something specifically for BV Vaal, Velk, Nam, but i doubt there will be anything like a Safi set. Considering there is a set that uses Safi parts. But that's good to know, def looking forward to some new duds.

so to clear this up once and for all :

currently the layers end at tier 1 armors of HR.
each update will add 1 tier on top. there is 3 tiers. (tempered monster tiers basically)

tier 1 is available.
tier 2 comes on march 12th with the safi/tundra region update.
tier 3 (elders and gamma sets) comes in april with the patch that will even out both versions.

MR layers arent available even on console yet. high chance these will start getting added come may when both versions are synched finally.

There was a dev video that they said they are planning / want to add MR armour as layered armour.

Try find 'em but be sure use ONLY for skin, not other stuff that ruin the fun

On console we’re at the point where we have every layered armor from Low Rank to High Rank, basically every monster before Master Rank including Arch Tempered Sets (Gamma). Kulve Tarroth is the only one I don’t have, but I never fought her so I can’t say if it’s actually available or not.

I know your question has already been answered but I’d like to leave a tip/suggestion in case you’re farming these layered armors. I got all of the elders in maybe 1-2 hours thanks to the skill “Geologist.” It allows you to gather from the same dropped material twice and all you need is level 1 of the skill. Maybe equip part breaker and try to flinch shot as much as you can, since both of these guarantees shiny drops.

KT armors are available on console aswell includeing its gamma. but you need materials and emperor nuggets form her to make em. hence why you dont see it if you never did her.

Good tip, will have to do that when I grind for them!
