Shield classes benefit from block boosts, less stagger ALSO means taking less damage from a block. Defender gear is perfectly good and effective. Elderseal weapons will reduce the spike spam, they reduce the unique super powers of most elder dragons. I don't think Nerg deals any ailments, so no need for element or status resists, but stun resist works on every fight.
Why not do multiplayer? Pop the SOS flare, it's free and there's usually plenty of people ready to jump into a quest. Once you get hooked on flares, you'll have lots of fun.
Holy crap, Thanks so much! Just one quick question. What armor set should i use, and what exactly you mean by 3 green dots?
I've been fighting Arch-Tempered Nergi a lot recently and here's what I can tell you about him.
LEARN HIS DIVE SKILL, this move can almost always 1shot u if you're not geared up.
His spikes will start turning black and afterwards he will ROAR and dive.
He deals dragon damage so check your resistances.
He's weak to thunder. On that same note there are bad weapon match ups against him. I mostly play CB but I was having lots of trouble with that against him, when I switched to Kinsect Glaive things became a lot easier.
Get mantles, especially temporal mantle.
I found that for him staying on the ground and delaying your get up time is a good way to avoid a lot of follow up hits.
DONT use the defender set as that's just the cheat set to get to Iceborne ASAP.
I had good results with evasion decos.
I don't know if I can remember much else.
Thank you so much! You both are legends! Il try my best. Have a good one!
Focus Nergi's white spikes, its Nergi's main gimmick that you should try to be exploiting. Its also weakspots of Nergi, making it pretty worthwhile to focus. And when broken, Nergi topples(unless in an animation), giving you an opening to attack. Hardened black spikes can make your weapon bounce and deal less damage overall. Another big reason to do so is that it stops Nergi from doing its dive bomb.
The dive bomb only occurs when most of its body is covered in black hardened spikes. If you need to avoid it, you can panic dive the attack or block with your weapon if it can with full Stamina(no need for Guard Up IIRC). Panic diving is simply, sheathing your weapon, running away from the monster, and pressing Dodge. If you get caught by the roar and are very close, you can dodge twice towards Nergi's tail, and you'll most likely be safe too(coming from Artful Dodger AT Nergi guide, you can watch that in YouTube too if you want more).
Nergi is fairly resistant to element, unless you use something like Bow and DB, Raw damage is just fine. I'm pretty sure that regular Nergi doesn't deal elemental damage, mainly just Raw damage. Get some Health Boost on your armor if possible. Its a really solid defense skill.
Don't overcommit but don't be too passive either. Too passive and the spikes will harden, too aggressive and you'll get hit too often, and you won't be able to get hits in to break its spikes. Find the balance in it that you can do.
so right away, hammer, greatsword, hunting horn, gunlance shelling, lbg/hbg sticky guns are going to cause him to enjoy laying on the ground for a long time, if you're careful and rinse each area properly.
try not to overcommit to attacks, smack his arm with a few hits then dodge and watch his next move, do it again.
there's lots of ledges, slopes, and climbable things, use the terrain to score a mount, then bash his face in
quicksheath is underrated =p
For High Rank it's pretty good.
The suit was from an event but the melder(Old little lady near a large pot) can meld those tickets and it's Appreciation Tickets. Hopefully it's not an iceborne thing though.

That armor set.
Yes it isn't going to be the best at DPS but you can make yourself pretty durable with it. Also it comes with Great Luck perk that might net you more materials per hunt.

1) Stuff yourself with a thunder weapon. Nergigante is most sensitive to thunder.
2) Be agile: the Nergigante is very strong and very fast.
3) His spiky forearms, the underside of his wings and his face are weak points. Be careful, his horns aren't easy to attack (but they are breakable).
4) You can sever the tail.
5) He's unsensitive to any trap and tranq bombs or tranq ammo: he's an elder dragon, you can't capture him.
6) Don't forget to eat bofore you go.
7) Send an SOS and run back to camp like a coward until a more experienced player shows up.
