Jho is a bad matchup for any weapon that don't swing wide/ have aim capabilities. That's because his size means any move with his head bring it out of your weapon's reach. That and the fact he loves jumping around and causing tremors. IMO, insect glaive is the easiest against him, followed close by lance/gunlance.
making use of the enviroment, vines, beetles and such for jump attacks help on jho greatly. they arent in every zone though so some zones you'll have to resort to standard hit and run tactics still, just try to stay near allies if you do run on a jho, nothing is more annoying than chasing him around the room chasing you. it turns into an episode of scooby doo.

I mean you don't have many excuses when you have a move that allows you to guard all damage at any moment while charging.
If you really want this friend to be in your group for tempered Jho with his Jagras Hacker (and why Jagras anyway? He's weak to dragon, Jho's GS would be better) you better prepare tons of traps and stuns to let him land any damage at all.
alternatively thry could stop with the always charging playstyle (by far the most knowledge intesive) and opt for much safer hit and run (crit draw quick sheathe), constant meat grinder (just chaining left click>right click in a circle around the monster) or dodge swirly spam (unsheathed dodge>right click>left click i think; for dodge>shoulderbash>sort of a windmill attack through the monster) playstyle; they dont omit charging ofcourse; but they dont require so much knowledge about the specific monsters movements for standard incapacitated fighting (relying only on charged slashes when the opportunity presents itself)
Also, there's no point on giving tips if he doesn't want to kwonledge and mostly because he probably will not see this topic either.
If he don't learn eventually it means he used to be carried from the rest of the party, if that's the case tell the HH to stop healing and come to combat. You guys will probably fail a lot of hunts this way but he'll learn eventually if he cares about the party.
Most people use the Jagras hacker until the rocket powered version is an option.
That being said it sounds like he is in love with the idea of the greatsword without really considering the reality of the weapon (you have to be amazing to make it work).
