What is the BowGun?
Hello,

I am like HR 29 or something and have some badass gear.
I dont really catch monsters cause it is confusing, I just beat them to death like a gangster.

One question that I have been wondering however is what is the bowgun? The thing seems useless, but you can upgrade it and things. What function does it really serve?

God bless,

Bowgun is the "auto-win" weapon according to a lot of people here.

bowgun is the jack of all trades in the hands of a master.

you can stun monsters

you can cut tails

you can deal damage to multiple locations or a single point

you can sleep the monster and blow it up or paralyze it and lay into it with another shot type.

you can spray allies with healing shots if thats your thing, even boost attack or defense.

its not without its drawbacks though, increased physical damage means charge attacks from monsters hurt more, having to reload can be as bad as having to heal when a monster decides to target you. recoil from a high powered shot can leave you vulnerable as well.

but as far as support weapons and great damage output with good damage control, its by far one of my fav weapons to use for capture missions. simply for the fact of keeping your damage in check and being able to do all the various statuses without being in the mix of things every pull of the trigger that ends in the monster being shot, helps.

and nothing beats taking a ranged weapon and bashing a monsters face in for the stun. it just feels satisfying to get back up after being charged, and smack them back to knock them over.

No that's the slinger.

The bow guns are actually 2 classes of weapon.

LBG or Light Bow Gun

And

HBG or Heavy Bow Gun.

And other people answered the rest.

Its worth noting the Heavy Bowgun and Light Bowgun both play a bit differently. Light Bowgun tends to be more mobile, allowing for easier evasion and positioning, while the heavy bowgun brings more damage to the table at the cost of being far slower moving around.

It can take a lot of practice and a build dedicated to using a favored bowgun, but they can do some hurt and work well on a team.

I think LBG is mostly used for rapid fire elemental. HBG does basically everything else, better.

The problem I got with LBG is that bows are better for elemental.

I'm not really sure what purpose LBG serves, that isn't done better by another ranged weapon?
If status like sleep coating vs sleep ammo we are talking the sleep ammo will win due to 100% proc rate it has.

i love lbg's gameplay no long animations like dragonpiercer it can be more effective from longer range as bow but only with crit ele build on long and big monsters.
if get hit while using dragonpiercer or the monster moves out of range you lose a lot of dmg
if the same happens while you rapidfire with lbg you only lose a bit dmg
and for power shot crit ele bow build you need to be really close
So overall LBG is not as strong but grants more mobility and lets you play from farther away
but also needs the right Monster Like Uragaan,Lavasioth,Bazel,Vaal and Xeno

I hope you realize that Dragon Piercer is a very ineffective and situational way to play Bow and it only works on a select few monsters. Bow outclasses LBG in mobility and damage. LBG is only really good for status builds like sleep bombing.
