How do I begin?
Put them in your item pouch and save to your load out. These add 15 or 25+ to your defense and attack power.
If you have BAZELGEUSE TALONS, you can combine and craft them with the powercharm and armorcharm.
2bazel talons +power charm =powertalon
2bazel talons + armor charm = armor talon
So in total, you have to buy 4 charms in total. Combine the 2 with bazel talons.
Put powercharm , armor charm, powertalon and defense talon in your item pouch, save to your load out. The defense and attack numbers will stack up. +15 + 25
Nothing much, but together with upgrades, weapon augment, then you will be able to get up to 500+ defense.
Search powertalon and armor talon on reddit or google.
Only weapons that are maxed in their respective tree can be augmented. No augmenting anything that isn't fully upgraded.
Hero and Warrior streamstones are categorized by weapon type. These categories are Hammer, Blade, Sword, Shaft, Lance, Axe, and Ranged. Correct me if there are any more/some are incorrect. You use the streamstones you obtain with the respective weapon.
Dual Blades: Blade
Hammer: Hammer
Glaive: Shaft
Bow: Shaft
L. Bowgun: Ranged
H. Bowgun: Ranged
Long Sword: Sword
Great Sword: Sword
Sword and Shield: Blade
Lance: Lance
Gunlance: Lance
Hunting Horn: Hammer
Switch Axe: Axe
Charge Axe: Axe
You won't initially see the option to augment until you receive a Hero or Warrior Streamstone. Keep fightin' those tempered monsters until you nab one.
I suggest fighting tempered Elder Dragons such as Vaal Hazak or Nergigante. Both fights are fairly simple and attacks are fairly well hinted at.
I personally do Vaal Hazak. All it requires from me is some Miasma jewels and his attacks, save for his tail swing of death, are very slow and easy to read.
EDIT: Forgot to add: the number of augments a weapon can have depends on the rarity of the weapon. The lower the rarity, the more augments.
Rarity 6 - 3 augments
Rarity 7 - 2 augments
Rarity 8 - 1 augment
EDIT V2: IGN's guide can help shed some light on any questions you might have or if something I said is confusing. :3

Thanks
That made me brainstorm how much armour I could theoretically get without augmentation for sec...
Nonetheless Ima do both this charm and augmentation
The only problem is that none of the Kulve weapons have a SnS with Sleep :(
I'm a finicky sleep-bomber
Well I like to mix and match.
I am wearing Kulve Spine though, and the Kulve set happens to have the same armour values as the AT monsters, so I can just craft more of Kulve armor whenever I need to.
Your Hunter Rank will rise as you go out and complete hunts, it is a lot like how your Palico levels up. If your HR was capped by story(or those 2 hunts I mentioned) you still gain progress towards higher ranks, and you'll gain it all at once after you remove the cap. I shot from 16 or w/e Xeno caps you at, to the 26(?) of the next block, to somewhere in the 30s after that.
When you capture or slay a Tempered monster, you can sometimes obtain specific items that are used for augmenting your weapons and armor, Streamstones. There are stones for armor, and there are stones for each weapon type. Augmenting armor raises the upgrade cap a bit, allowing you to get more defense. Augmenting weapons allows you to apply some sort of buff to the weapon, like raising its Affinity or making it heal you as you hit enemies.
There are also Investigations that can reward streamstones, these will be indicated with a purple box for reward rarity, instead of the usual bronze/silver/gold boxes. Naturally, these investigations put you against Tempered enemies.
Short version: Just keep hunting and look for Tempered enemies, you'll get what you need eventually.
I've heard of builds like those but even I ain't that crazy. I usually run about 550 defense XD
