That said there are some different skills on the gamma. I keep hoping (this is personal opinion and superstition NOTHING REAL) - that we get a chance..or a quest in icebourne, to turn the 3 sets into an omega version for G rank..or whatever the new rank is.
Anyway, gamma is different, beta is more slots, alpha is more skills, beta is usually..usually more useful (basing on the AT videos i've been watching/setups). Depends on your weapon, and setup you want too (defensive, like health boost, evade extender, or offense - handicraft, weakness exploit..attack..etc etc).
The choice between Alpha and Beta pieces often can come down to what decorations you have available, since it's not uncommon for a Beta piece to -become- identical to an Alpha piece by gemming in the skill point it lost in the extra slot it gained. Not always the case, but it's worth looking at when considering what armor pieces to create. As for Gamma.. well look at Luna's gamma helm for example. It completely obsoletes the wiggler helm, and this isn't unusual for Gamma pieces. They may not all be terribly useful to you, but they offer more all around value than other armor pieces generally do. You could do far worse than making a gamma set you like the sound of.
And I pretty much agree. But at least the Alpha/Beta sets are pretty damn good.
