Bad performance on a GTX 1080
VERY hesitant to post this, alot of flak comes from people on these kinds of posts and I used the search to try and see other users with the same issues and I've read alot of other people with lower system specs actually running the game better on weaker GPU's. I'm getting very poor performance on the highest settings, changed it down to high settings and still got the same kind of FPS. Volume fog is disabled and still feels like I'm getting about 20-30 fps (I have it set to 60 fps in the settings so I know its not capped at 30). I literally have no problem maxing a game out with a solid 60 fps so far, including battlefield V on ultra settings. My PC can even do some medium to high 4k gaming settings. But I'm completely at a loss why this is running so poorly at 1080p resolutions. I've re installed graphics drivers, scoured google and read people with weaker GPU's were actually getting better FPS's. I ran to the discussions board here as I'm at a loss on some magical setting I'm missing. I've been live streaming it as well and chatting it up with people who have a GTX 1060 and they run it extremely well.

that's my specs and I have zero problems with any game on the market, I'm not an elitest and I don't need it to be on the highest settings BUT, I only seem to get a good 60 fps, if I'm on near medium to low settings. My PC isn't bogged down with anything and even the task manager is saying I'm only using around 40% of my CPU and GPU. any tips? using the latest nvidia drivers as well. It appears to me, honestly, that it simply has poor optimizations for GTX 1070 and 1080 users from what I was reading and people with GTX 1060 and below run the game just fine. Is that still the case?

UPDATE: wow this blew up like crazy with alot of mixed opinions and suggestions, thank you to the people that gave actual fix suggestions, so what finally SOLVED it, despite driver reinstalls, removing geforce experience, defrags, messing with power options on windows, messing with nvidia performance sliders, DirectX updates, scouring google and the list goes on. Was to stop using my TV as a monitor and play off the laptop screen itself. I've never had this issue with any game before using my TV as the main monitor (main laptop screen disabled of course). I'm running this extremely smoothly maxed out now but its a little urksome that I went from 55 inches of screen space back down to 17.3 inches. I can't begin to even hunt down why hooking the laptop to the TV as a monitor would cause bad performance issues with JUST Monster Hunter World but I recommend people with any dual monitor setups or doing laptop to a monitor to simply disconnect it and see if you get an FPS boost. G Sync really shines on my laptop screen but it really sucks because I got accustomed to playing on a large screen so I'll prob play MHW a bit limited in short bursts. Playing on balanced Nvidia slider, removed geforce experience and playing on HP recommended power balance settings which gives it juice up to max performance as needed. No issues on the laptop screen itself, the laptop screen is also in 1080p resolution. TV was also set at 1080p resolution so I know it wasn't upping it to 4k or anything, weird but that's what the fix was.

RESOLUTION: Unhooked the laptop from my 55 Inch TV as main monitor and used the laptop screen itself.

Check whether your laptop gpu or cpu or MHW gaming nvidia profile is set to power saving mode, which caps fps to maintain battery charge.

Aye you mean the battery boost mode via the geforce experience right? Already been looked at unfortunately.

I think this has a chance of being true. I run it fine on max settings with a GTX 1060 and I've seen other people struggle with cards that are a bit better. Of course I don't know exactly what else is going on with other people's machines.

I fear this is whats going on, its just poorly optimized from reading google and steam searchs for anyone above a GTX 1060. /sadface
The only reasons you should be getting that kind of crap framerate on a gtx 1080 on a laptop is either the game defaulting to the garbage onboard gpu on your i7, or nvidia's power save option refusing to allow the gpu to run at full speed.

Use nvidia control panel (NOT geforce experience. Uninstall that crap.) to set your preferred graphics processor for MH World to your 1080("High-performance NVIDIA processor" is the name of the setting) and set the Power Management Mode setting to Prefer Maximum Performance.
Gonna go out on a limb here and say check if MHW is actually using your 1080 instead of the internal GPU via Nvidia control panel. Those specs should easily get high frames on high settings or better in intensive games like DMC 5.
Edit: Thought I was on a different game board lol

It isn't every card above GTX 1060 that has the issues but your 1080 is unfortunately one that this game seems to dislike. Such is PC gaming though.

This might be weird but can you try connecting to an external monitor just to see if it would change anything. I had a friend before having such issue where the internal GPU (intel graphics) of her lappy was overtaking NVIDIA when she plays games, but it works properly when she connects to an external monitor.
I really appreciate the replies. Debated uninstalling geforce experience completely today actually. Just ran a small test and was able to run resident evil 2 (2019) on max with zero issues at dx11 and 1080p so I'm honestly going to chock this up to poor optimization past a gtx 1060 unless an actual gtx 1070 or 1080 can chime in and say they are running theirs fine. So buyer beware, anything past a 1060 GTX seems to be really poor performance. On a side note I dont let geforce experience control my games, I don't let it optimize anything, I just now did a test for resident evil 2 on max (which it wanted 12 gb of graphic memory what? right?) and it still ran perfectly fine. So I appreciate the replies guys but I'm going to have to chock this up to an optimization issue and I'll be putting Monster Hunter world for PC on hold for now.

Actually Im hooked to a 55 inch TV at 1080p. So way ahead of ya there.
I really appreciate the replies everyone and trying to help. This will bar me from buying the Icebourne expansion for sure if i can't maintain anything over 20-30 fps on a GTX 1080. So buyer beware and I hope to come back when better optimizations are made to the game.
Edit: I played the crap out of this on PS4 pro, I love this game and double dipped on PC, I'm not trashing the game and highly recommend it but anyone who has a GTX 1070 or 1080 BEWARE that this doesn't run good at all. I have a clean windows install and it still runs like poop. If your like me and wanted a more graphical experience from the consoles, then just beware until something solid is stated that it runs good on cards past a GTX 1060. I know some of you might chime in and say your running a 1070 and 1080 and saying its running flawless. But Id like you to provide PC specs in a video along with its gameplay because even google searches says a GTX 1080 can't run this at 60 fps right now. Love you guys and thank you for the replies and I'll do my best to answer back but I think this is a shut and closed case for anything past a GTX 1060

Sure. Don't bother trying my suggestions to fix your profile, just blame the game in spite of there being plenty of people around here using 1070's and 1080's.

Your suggestion has already been looked at and disabled as mentioned in my reply. Battery boost has been disabled my friend since this morning several hours ago in an attempt to resolve this on my own. Geforce experience has no control over anything as also mentioned. I only debated removing geforce experience in an off chance it fixed anything but no one here as stated they are running 1070 and 1080 cards either. I'm not ignoring anyone on their replies.

Side edit: I get when people want to reply and they hope their answer fix's things, but if anyone can chime in on a 1070 and 1080 that would be awesome and provide a small clip. Because even google when I search it says a GTX 1080 cant run MHW at 60 fps max. I do love the responses though! It helps me trouble shoot anything I missed and also helps other users who search through for help.

In Windows itself, your power plan should be set to maximum performance or in the power option settings, max processor state is at 100%/max when plugged in.

After that, go to the Nvidia control panel, manage 3D settings, program settings, locate MonsterHunterWorld.exe and set it to use the 1080.

You can also try reverting to the 411.63 Nvidia drivers.

Power plan is set to performance already, Nvidia is set to let the 3D application decide as recommended by the Nvidia Reddit for any game to not use extra juice when not really needed. May I ask your GPU? So far everyone replying hasn't solidly stated they are using a GTX 1070 or 1080. I know you guys are trying to help for people above a GTX 1060 but honestly I've not seen any replies yet that have stated anything solid or any fixes. This is looking to be chocked up to poor optimization past a 1060 unless someone else chimes in and provides video proof and disproves the entire google search engine. I love you guys and appreciate the responses but so far its been pretty basic replies on things to do and I wager the replies is from no one using a GTX 1070 or 1080 card.

Edit: I've not tried reverting drivers yet but if I did I would lose out on 90% of the more 2019 optimizations for games stated by nvidia. I say that as in the recent release for the game ready drivers. If i DID revert drivers, I could be losing out on optimizations for most games this year as they have advertised for game ready drivers. It seems MHW has kinda fallen through the cracks for 1070 and 1080 users. I have zero problems running any games maxed out but with this one, so I'll state again buyer beware if your running a GTX 1080 at the very least because my PS4 Pro is delivering a better experience then my PC version.
