SnS mounting
SnS is a neat thing that has viability from basics if you actually know what to do and don't pick it on tall monsters, but...

why on earth pull out a dinky little carving knive instead of slashing the thing for extra damage during mounts? What a missed opportunity that could have made SnS a bit more than basic.

The addition of that charge backstep isn't enough.

every weapon works like this. you mount the monster, do 1 damage for each stab, and then perform the final attack

insect glaive can do flips back and forth and do damage, but yeah, I think the rest are just knife.

Insect glaivers just move to attack while mounting.

oh crap, didnt know about that. my bad
SnS on the other hand has a unique mount finisher that you can make last much longer than the other ones if you want.

My favorite part is when it finishes by beating the ever living crap out of the monster's back with the shield like you were Captain America.

SnS mounting tip: During finisher, after the 2nd shield bash, pause for half a second, then press circle/B/rmb to do another shield bash, rinse and repeat until the monster falls down.

This prolongs the finisher so the monster can stay immobilized longer, allowing your team to wail on it.

this is such a good tip. another interesting tip is that you should do the shield bash in the head for some stun damage

Because the carving has purple sharpness plus. The 1's just mean it's 1 stab of bad ass.

No seriously I thought I saw a video at one point where they were hacking with a GS and no knife. I did not really watch it much. Right now i'm trying to figure out what you need to do to mount reliably going down hill. Up hill is the same as it's always been but I don't think i'm doing the downhill mount hits right.

Also tall monsters are pretty easy with SnS. The backhop is your friend.

Very good info.

even small weapons would be too cumbersome for attacks while mounting, not to mention that a number of SnS use blunt clubs (not great for stabbing) the exeption is the insect glaive and thats because that thing was made for use in the air.

Tips for mounting always try to stay at the head so the monster will try to barge it's head against wall to shake you off move when you saw the command for it at the top right corner of the screen let the KO itself .
