FPS Drops since recent update?
At mid-high settings 1080p, I always ran this game perfectly fine at 60FPS consistently with no drops (Except to 50-55 in heavy action). I've had this performance since day one and played the game for nearly 100 hours.

Suddenly last night I'm getting random drops to 20FPS, snap back to 60, down to 20, etc. back and forth with no actual clear pattern or reason. This is happening in all areas with no discrimination including Astera, Ancient Forest, Rotten Vale, etc. regardless of how much or little is happening on screen. No settings seem to have changed, nothing in GeForce updated really except my graphics driver maybe but I rolled that back to what it was before and that didn't fix it. All I can think of is maybe the Autumn update has some influence here- has anyone else noticed a massive performance drop lately?

My specs:
1060 GTX 6GB
i7-7700HQ
16GB RAM
Windows 10

Actually, on 10 Oct Windows10 has announced an update available for users. And after this update, I found obviously 10 fps drops at some places which happens to be with heavy load of graphics. Unlike before, the game runs consistently around 54-60 fps.

Also Nvidia has announced a new driver for this Windows update, but I dont see any compatible with this fps drops.does anyone encounter the same problem? I wanna know too.
Same here. I am not sure which one is causing it since after the MHW update, my windows and nvidia also finished their new update. :((
From what i've heard it's a combination of faulty drivers for certain gpu's and the new W10 update. From what most people are assuming, basically it seems like everyone is screwed until both get a proper update out which who knows how long that will take.

why blame one when you could blame all?

jokes aside, try the cap fps thing from unlimited to 60fps
I tried the following solutions:
  • Messing with ingame settings including v-sync, FPS cap, and resolution
  • Messing with Nvidia settings for game (made sure it's using my 1060GTX GPU not onboard graphics) and increasing maximum prerendered frames
  • Uninstalling recent Windows Updates
  • System restore to point earlier than the issue occurred
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Validating integrity of Steam files
  • Rolling back graphics driver to 398.36 that supposedly has better performance than newer drivers
  • Running in Windowed or Borderless Fullscreen mode
  • Disabled Steam Overlay
  • Disabled Allow Downloads During Gameplay
  • Checked that no other unusual programs are running in background

None of the above really fixed the problem and I still find myself with this severe fluctuating framerate that started out of the blue two nights ago (10/9 I believe). Could it really just be the recent Windows update?

I also noticed this.
Both my GPU usage went to 100% all the time and temp jumped to 80+ degrees.

Prior to that everything was fine normal usage and 67-71C temps.
I now also tried system restoring to a point as far back as October 3rd this year, reinstalling Steam, lowering graphic settings to absolute minimum, and reinstalling GeForce. Its odd because, if it has to do with the Windows update, wouldn't one of my solutions have worked (e.g. rolling back via system restore, uninstalling recent updates, etc.)? If it's the graphics driver, why didn't rolling back to 398.36 work?

Thinking out loud here- I see no one quite knows at the moment.
Before the 10 Oct updates, I had tested a graphics setting which is said to be giving more fps to the gameplay. By turning ambient occlusion from high to medium, i found out the screen stutter happens more frequently when the screen has a number of shiny surfaces to show. It's strange to see not gaining fps but come out with more graphic problems...

And maybe if you try tuning the game with a higher setting, assumably the problem can be solved ? XD

The graphic seems to have such anomaly like a bug... and yes many ppl have been talking about it since launch.
my graphic is still in 38x.xx
too lazy to update
and only fps drop was kushala or teostra skills
I've heard good things about switching back to ancient drivers like 38x.xx, but I wonder why that would have any impact when the configuration I had (including drivers from 411.xx onward) was fine last week but suddenly this week started having this issue, like exactly how far back in time do we need to travel for drivers is the question?
Apparently there were issues with the W10 creator's update for October such as files being randomly deleted from Documents and some other stuff so revert back to v1803 cause there is a good chance that is the problem.
Did you try playing the game in steam offline mode?

Can this be done? I thought the game needed to be connected to servers constantly... I can give it a shot if so.

Yep, you just won't be able to play online or do event quests... I had weird stuttering and when I tried playing in steam offline mode the frame drops went away.
EDIT: did not fix, thought it did but it seemed fine until I alt-tabbed out of the game then it started having issues
