Anyone think Savage Deviljho is far better than normal Deviljho?
Better hitzones, probably hitboxes, and they even upgraded him with more combat variation.
I realized it now after soloing tempered savage jho in guiding land and then come back to hunting HR golden jho today with same gear yet despite rank difference i still think golden jho is more annoying lol.

Now i remember how much i disliked hunting jho back then, but now i realized even tho it's so late, that his variant makes me enjoy hunting him again.

Savage is a better fight, mainly due to being a older Deviljho

Absolutely. I had to go back to grinding og Jhoe for the crown and it feels awful compared to Savage, mostly because of the hip check spam and the earthquake from the stomp feels way harder to deal with.

And although clunk claw has it's setbacks, it did make some fights with bad hitzones for DB much less frustrating. Jhoe was such a misery fight in vanilla because the legs took no damage and you had to slap them forever to trip him, not only is it more reasonable to do damage with tenderize, but also I swear Savage is more generous letting you hit the chest part by keeping it lower throughout the fight.

Yeah those terrible hitzones in HR Jho are the biggest reason why his hunt is such pain in the ass lol.
Not to mention aside from he moves his tail a lot, i also feel like HR Jho always keep his tail high as well compared to Savage, so not only it's difficult to hit, it makes cutting the tail kinda annoying as well..

It's funny you mention this. Yesterday, I did the exact same thing as you described. I fight them pretty similarly, the only difference being Savage Deviljho has some annoying area-denial attacks to watch out for. I didn't notice any difference in tail height between regular Deviljho and Savage Deviljho. There were times where I could barely reach Savage Deviljho's tail with the greatsword's overhead swings. It's a good thing the tail can't take much damage before it gets cut.

If by better you mean easier then yeah. If you do enough damage Savage just stays there panting all the time. Tempered normal Jho with the Savage jho mechanics is how Savage Jho used to be in the older games, the IB version is a joke.

When using a Heavy Bowgun I love that huge ass tail when using Pierce ammo. So many damage numbers.
Normal Deviljo is constantly running from one end of the map to the other, he was a fight intended to be killed entirely with clutch claw attacks like Legiana. You'll never get more than one or two hits on him before he's practically teleported somewhere else.

Eh i don't really mind if it turns out as "joke" version of OG as long it's fun, HR Deviljho is far from hard but his terrible hitzones make the fight become a chore and boring , and imo Savage did it better because after all, i am hunting for fun as the first reason..
Challenging can be done with a lot of ways, and HR Deviljho version of "challenging" is far from being fun imo.
Also about Savage being easier is really subjective to each person, a lot of my friends found him harder than fighting Rajang or Raging Brachy and the others think he isn't harder than them.

I like Savage more. they're less of a giant sh!tzone, got updated attacks, and expanded on the underused breath weapon of base jho. Oh, and they retained the most well designed flinch counter in the game, which is awesome. Jho and the flinch counter they pioneered gets way too little recognition.

I do think that the dragon breath floor clouds are excessively punishing for melee builds that aren't dragon immune, though. I longlance them entirely for that reason.

Don't see this brought up a lot, but after fighting stuff later, going back to Savage after Furious Rajang or Temp Nami feels like a massive breath of fresh air. Several monsters get this corny reaction counter on hit, but being able to slap Jho for trying to +1 you is really satisfying. Savage is a massively improved fight over base pickle and incentivizes claw in a way that actually feels worth it since his hitzones are actually good

Unlike a lot of IB monsters, he doesn't get some instant turnaround attack, has clear windups and endlag relative to the strength of the move he does, doesn't spaz out all over the place usually, and has weakpoints that aren't just his head. He might be "easy" but he's definitely more fun than base Jho

This, this is the point i tried to make..
Being fun doesn't necessarily have to be an ultimate hard, i don't get people like HR Deviljho more than Savage just because HR Deviljho only have small good hitzones area, it makes the hunt become a chore rather than challenging because you are being forced to hitting the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ spots or have to use certain weapons for better result.

Savage makes the hunt more enjoyable to any weapon user imo..
