How to solo bosses like anjanath as a new player?
I mainly use long sword and the hammer but i am really having a hard time killing anjanath by myself, with an ally its fine, not a difficult fight at all. But his really fast attack patterns I find are hard to predict and by myself something like the great hammer is out of the question. The longsword just doesnt seem to be doing any damage to him though even if I attack the tail or the head... landing spirit helm breaker on that fast thing too, not a chance. I only want to kill him so I can reliably farm his gear, which his set is currently the best gear I can get. Any tips anyone?

sidenote ive tried using faster weapons like the sword and shield and dual blades but I really dont like the sns and the dual blades always tend to do little damage for me and i dont like how long you get locked into the attack animations

Don’t forget about foresight slash as a LS player, can save you a lot of painful hits. Best thing you can do is watch the way he attacks, he telegraphs a lot of his painful moves before he does them. Try to stay under his legs, most of his stuff will miss u. Bring flashes, traps, bombs.

Is foresight slash the parry move? I can never pull that thing off! I do the backstep slash thing a lot though. I really wanna learn that parry!

Don't always try to go for the head or the tail unless you know you have an opening. Attack the legs eventhough they're not weak points.

You need to get used to the idea that its better to slowly whittle down a monster with safer attacks until you see an opening for a big one, rather than constantly trying to go for a big one. Save your helm breaker for when you knock him over or have him otherwise trapped.

Slowly learn the monster and its moveset. Your Foresight Slash is a very powerful tool for avoiding damage while still dealing it.

Aim for the legs and make him fall over.
Flash him.
Make use of ledges for mounting.
Drop the boulders
Bring traps and materials to craft some more.

But mostly it comes down to getting gud by just fighting him and getting used to his attacks and your own moveset.

edit:
Small amounts of damage aber better than unreliable damage that leaves you wide open to his attacks. Even little damage adds up in the long run.

I feel like all my damage is little damage, even as close to the start of the game I am. Like my strong attacks with the longsword on a weak spot (the face) do like 14 damage.

Try the hammer then, if youre good at aiming for the face, hammer can give you good KOs. Also, when anjanath does his charge move, hitting him in the head can cause him to topple.

That's normal. Damage numbers in this game don't get very big.

I don’t really play LS but I’m pretty sure foresight slash has to follow an attack, so it takes timing to get it. Once you do though it is really useful.

If you are new to the game and want to play LS I would recommend watching a video tutorial. the game teaches you the weapon skills, but not how to use them effectively.

Anjanath isn't all that difficult with some practice. You'll want to stay under him and focus on his legs. I'm also a hammer user and you can knock him on his ass with enough shots to his lets. Don't try and go for the tail or face if you're not comfortable doing it. Once you knock Anjanath down (with the hammer) mess his face up with your strongest moves.

And try using a poison element weapon on him along with some traps, bombs, etc.

My PC file isn't my main btw. I usually play this on PS4 where I have 100+ hours.

anjanath is your first big skill check. taking him down represents a leap in your abilities for the game.

his telegraphs are actually really big, and the fight is actually one of the easiest you are going to face, but you won't know this till you try a tempered pickle.

when i was coming up in the ranks i was a fan of planting poison/sleep/paralyze meat at the two feeding grounds where he tries to go eat something, and causing some extra status buildup. =)

with hammer, you need to keep hitting the legs till he falls over, then take advantage of that to land big bang. and hit his skull when you have the height advantage.

with LS you can probably foresight slash through his head strikes, kicks, and tail spins, but i would fully dodge his big charge attack, grapple attack, and big flamethrower moves. when he's doing those big moves you should be able to run up to him and hit him as he's going by or clipping into a wall. You won't be able to get a helm splitter on him till you're super good, so just focus on regular slashes and strikes, and use a trap or flashbang to hold him in place for a helm splitter.

don't forget your farcaster, its your get out of jail free card, and it should be abused.

Why would you want his set? Just upgrade the bone armor until you hit high rank and you're good.
frost.tempest Feb 16, 2019 @ 10:17am
Gunlance + Guard skills + Vigorwasp palico = anti Anjanath / Deviljho solo safest setup.
Shield attacks and poke when the opportunity presents itself. When monster falls or there is an opening drop shield and attack. Not exactly the fastest but not the worst either. With practice can get good times.

For long sword, get evade extender (Tobi Kadachi Arms) to help evading his atacks. Focus on the legs, when he falls go for head or tail. Attack head or tail directly only as opportunity strikes.

For hammer, get evade extender too, Slugger skill (for easier KO) might be good. Try to predict the head position to hit the head with uppercut attack and charged idle attack. Or go for legs to trip him and then the head.

When he rages and have fire in the mouth, attacking head can cause an explosion in his thoat but can be risky, only do when safe. He likes to combo with a hit and huge flamethower, so dont get hit, always ready to evade.

Hope this helps you.

Ive actually been using the bone armor, but i haven't been upgrading it with armor points I think a buddy told me to save them for better sets. Are armor points easily picked up, and would you recommend upgrading that set? Also thanks for the tips guys!
