To unlock this quest, you need to have completed "The Point of No Return", and then talk to the 3rd Fleet Commander, who is somewhere in Seliana. That unlocks "Blazing Black Twilight".
Now, you don't actually NEED to complete "Blazing Black Twilight". Instead, just watching the intro cutscene unlock a second quest, "Dawn's Triumph" by talking to Field Team Leader. This is another Alatreon quest, but for some reason he only has 1/3rd of his normal health, making him super easy to beat even if you don't use elemental weapons.
After completing "Dawn's Triumph", then talk to the Excitable A-Lister near the entrance of Seliana, who will give you "The Black Dragon", which is the special assignment for Fatalis. You don't need to complete "Blazing Black Twilight" at all, only "Dawn's Triumph".
When doing "The Black Dragon", you CAN NOT SOS until you have completed the first phase of his fight at least once.
Once you've beaten "The Black Dragon", you permanently unlock the Fatalis Event Quest, "Fade to Black".

For reference, MR Great Jagras has more health than Alatreon in DT.
If Alatreon dashes around too much then something is wrong with your palico, or you healing far away.
If you can read Alatreon's moves better you will appreciate most attacks it spams, because most of them offers great openings. But back-stepping and flying attacks are trash moves ngl.
If you think Behemoth is more annoying than Alatreon, you probably haven't done Behe solo with HR gear before. At least I felt more comfortable solo-ing Alatreon with HR gear.
If you need help, post your session ID here.
Nice exaggeration. Alatreon has only one potential one-hit-kill move in his entire arsenal which is his mini dragon nova (which is telegraphed as hell). All his other moves are combo moves and do not do nearly enough damage to oneshot you even if your defence is poor.
If you are having this much trouble with Alatreon, you will not survive Fatalis unless you get hard carried by a random.
2. Besides Judgement, his prolonged fire beam can 1-hit kill you. He killed me like that before at full health even if i was blocking. I did manage to reduce the damage of that by dodging it, but still took damage.
3. I don’t solo him, i always run with a team, my palico is fine. He simply dashes between members of the team. I always try to stay on him as much as i can, but end up chasing him around that cave more than doing any damage to him.
I don’t think Behemoth is more annoying than Alatreon. I *thought* Behemoth was annoying. Period. Then i met Alatreon and now Behemoth doesn’t seem so bad. I have done Behemoth with HR gear on to actually collect materials for the full set of his armor bc it looked so damn cool. Just not solo. Is it even possible to beat him solo? I thought beating Behemoth pretty much requires full team. I would have loved to have some weapons, bet they’d have some sick designs if they were in the game, but i think only Glaive got the honors of having Behemoth tree.
2. If you mean the fire breath attack it does while it is flying and breath downwards, it is a multi hit attack that's super well telegraphed and you have all the time to dodge unless you over committed into your attacks. It's not a 1-hit.
3. Blame your teammates, not the AI.
4. Yeah sadly only IG gets FF themed weapon, but at least you can have Draco layered armor.

"Except you. You aren't viable. Eat sh*t." - MHW Alatreon
Anything is still viable if you are good enough to not die to normal attacks other than EJ. Not to mention all older gens have trash weapon types that makes the game equally harsh if you only use them, but you probably haven't played those gens.
"I like status builds!" - Players
Imagine crying and ranting because you have to leave your comfort zones for once in hundreds fights in a video game.
Also you if one brought status build to fight Alatreon and rant after failing... They need to start learning differences between 'status' and 'element'
"Except you. You aren't viable. Eat sh*t." - MHW Alatreon
Can't learn from mistakes because a single failure completely breaks down one's self esteem. Well, everyone is built differently and can't blame anyone on this, some people just want to bonk dragons for fun and prefer letting their brain relax.
