Mat drops are the same.
Kill for self pleasure and possible tail/part breaks
Cap for faster time
Seconded.
You get more out of a capture than you do a kill -- you can compare this yourself, bonus rewards when capturing vs. bonus rewards + carving when killing. It also means you don't have to go through the entire last 20% of a monster's healthbar; might not seem like too big a deal, but sometimes Rajaang likes to surprise you.
Either way, nice to carry traps to be able to 'stun' a particularly annoying beast.
The only time you might not want to trap is when a beast has a breakoff you're specifically looking for and haven't gotten it yet.
The funny thing is, i kept reminding myself to always capture Rajang everytime on guiding land, but that monster for some reason always had his way to piss me off in every hunts, so in the end i always ended up killing him because he was upsetting lol..
Haha. I always capture. I mean, why not? I did the work to get it to that point, I get a little more then I would carving...except... 'Piss me off', hah. Sometimes my timing is off, sometimes things don't work right, and it is intensely satisfying to smash somethings head in for causing me trouble.
Note: I've had newer players just completely lose their sheets when I answer a SOS and capture their target. For some reason, even though the game literally counts capture as a kill for the missions, there are some people out there that blatantly ignore the game telling them 'success!' and persist in believing weird things... The only time I have ever used voice chat...Ever, in this game: "Lol, are you serious. Calm the hell down."
I mean i reached a point where i already have literally everything in this game, so might as well kill the monsters for my own satisfaction especially when it becomes annoying for a sudden
