Mouse and keyboard works like a dream
I'll have to disagree, I hated World world at first until I played Rise and recently jumped back to World to try it again.
Because Rise's tutorial was literally "run here and talk to this person" OVER AND OVER for like 30 minutes... In both World and Rise, you mostly either learn as you go or devote some time to the training yard to build and hone your skills for weapons. It's not something that can be taught in a matter of seconds via tutorial. Neither did.
Either way, Rise is DEFINITELY more beginner friendly. Bowgun builds don't need to peer over custom mods for a proper build. Deco's can be crafted instead of rolled. Talismans have a much better chance of unlocking your desired. I had a "god-tier" (as YouTube is calling it) talisman for my switch axe build before I was even half way through high rank, which gave me Rapid Morph 2 and Flinch Free 1 and two level 2 deco slots. We're talking chances in the 30 percentile instead of the super crappy 0.03 to 3 percentiles we see for a lot of worthwhile decos via Elder Melder. Armors are far better in terms of skills. I can wishlist a specific build in a matter of minutes instead of peering at the armor forgery screen for half an hour sifting through all the crit eye and resistance base skills which accomodates 90% of armor in World.
The hardest part of Rise is grinding the materials for said items, which still isn't bad as long as people actually pay attention to part percentages in their notes and listen to the host of the hunt. A lot of people coming from World bring over their "capture EVERYTHING" mentality, which simply doesn't work in Rise. In Rise, you actually need to know what you want and how to get it. Capturing a monster for a literal carve only item completely wastes your time and your hunt. It's why most grind for me is done solo.
I will probably go with Rise
Rise is not a bad starter, not nearly as fun or as satisfying (visuals or audio) as World, but can still be thoroughly enjoyed. Neither are a bad choice to start with. Just have fun whichever you pick. Worst case scenario, you pick up World in a few weeks / months and can enjoy both, like I do!
But theres a 69 side of that coin.
MHW may be somewhat less appealing after playing Rise due to MHW having somewhat less interesting combos and the added chore of having to clutch claw tenderize/weaken parts in order to deal any meaningful damage.
Dont get me wrong, I LOVE mhw and as of now, there is far more things to do in MHW. World is also a prettier game and imo the combat is more fluid. But MHW is also a harder game rn and has a harder climb to endgame.
