Solo fatalis without the palico is actually easier, He was build to mess up multiplayer. Sure you give up on paralysis but you won't see it charging non-spot and turning to use his charged fireball on you out of nowhere. Plus you can see how boring he is, this is why I like the MP chaos.
I always used the Coral Horn on my Palico in vanilla and kept it going into Iceborne, and I scoffed at the gong they get, but seriously the gong does a lot more to save you than almost all other gadgets including the Vigorwasp spray, lol. The amount of times I remember definitely-about-to-cart situations when I was new to Iceborne and learning the monsters and my Palico would bust out the gong and just stun the monster out of stuff was too high to count, lol. I guess their AI can read monsters perfectly and as soon as the game begins winding up certain high threat monster attacks they just bust out the gong instantly.
I'm with people when they say Palicos have annoying AI though. You often see 'em crawling around not doing much, or being in a state of perma stun. Once they level up (especially to 50 in Iceborne) you basically won't ever see them die, but they'll just spent a lot of time unconscious in a stunned state instead lol. And while it's cute seeing your Palico place their own tiny barrel bombs when you use the Meowlotov Cocktail gadget, I don't think I've ever seen my Palico place the Meowlcano or whatever it's called properly lol, they're always stuck spraying fire and missing the monster forever in some corner of the arena.
I still don't fully understand the lore between humans and Palicoes and if they're subservient or just like padawans or something, calling you meowster and stuff, but still...if your character becomes a complete legend by the end of World and Iceborne + free content storyline, then your Palico must become a legend in their own right too. Been with me from the start, never slacking off, never giving up, never letting me down. He should be another Meowscular Chef or Old Hunter type NPC in a future game, lol.
yet for some reason i keep bringing him with me... him and his stupid little pukei/fatalis costume....
even the bad days when he draws the monster away or send kulve spinning in random circles like a ballerina i still never leave him
bloody cat... maybe he has mind control powers? its the only explanation
