How did fatty's dragonator theme got played for Olympics?

It's not just the fatty's dragonator theme, it's the iconic song of every single Monster Hunter game. Some would say more iconic than the Monster Hunter theme is.

Considering how deeply embedded Monster Hunter is in Japanese pop culture and what that songs in particular represents, it's a perfect fit.

I believe you could also hear main theme of I think MH3 play too.

Among other games, I recognized 2 Final Fantasy songs, one from Nier and one from Soul Calibur VI.

Monster Hunter is a big thing in Japan, and Proof of a Hero is a big thing in the Monster Hunter franchise, I guess. I heard it during the intro for MHF, which is pretty much a PSP port of MH1, so I guess it's probably a song that has been in every game they've ever made at some point. It may as well be the Monster Hunter main theme, I guess.

The atheletes marching don't seem to show recognition to the songs being played ... nobody is grinning stupidly to the tune.

It's just amazing the national anthem was played alongside songs from Capcom, Square Enix, SEGA, Bandai Namco! Maybe they are sponsors?

Hope MHW will be an Olympics event next! :p As solo, duo or 4 player team! The possibility of e-sports being an Olympics medal event is always open. Will gladly pay a stupid amount of cash just to see MH tourney!

Japan is doing a great job luring gamers and stay-at-home audience to pay attention to the Olympics. Such a brilliant strategy. Usually young ppl are not interested in the Olympics but the opening ceremony has caused quite a stir among the gaming community. Seems this will be one of the most popular replays in YT for a while.
