(assuming you have effluvial expert or keep shooting Torch Pod on ground)
Later there will be Guard Up decoration from granny melding so you can ditch Uragaan set.
Few monsters does have unblockable attack even with Guard Up, such as grab attack or reallybigsupernovaareaattack.
Later monsters aren't too tough, and it only gets easier once you can get those health augments back on your weapon to restore any health lost to chip damage.
Or rather, they did something to the MR monsters, giving them a lot more force behind their attacks than you'd probably expect even with Guard 5 and stuff. You can use Guard 5 in HR with a Lance and attacks will just make noise against your shield, but in MR you'll definitely find a lot more attacks doing higher chip damage and even knocking you back. There's also more "true unblockable" moves in Iceborne that not even Guard Up can block, but don't ask me to give you a list because I don't know just how many or which ones, lol.
Rajang comes to mind, as he can really pummel stunlock you with some of his attacks due to his aggressive unrelenting nature, which does a number on your stamina and health too - although using a Lance against Rajang is dubious at best, due to how he likes to react to clutch claw usage, but still.
As already mentioned, don't be afraid to invest in skills you don't typically think about. Don't gotta chase the damage + affinity meta, you can go for some comfort like using Vaal sets or just having Recovery Speed in your set, with Astera Jerky or whatever too. The most important thing is that you don't cart, rather than finishing a hunt 5 minutes faster.
Heck just being able to dodge away to make some space to heal can be the difference in a fight. Lance is kinda stuck always pressuring with pokes since it has surprisingly good closing options but nearly zero escape options other than "lmao imma charge away now" which obviously isn't always a reliable method.
Don't forget to be wearing MASTER RANK ARMOR if doing MR quests. Even the highest defense HR gear is still worse than the lowest defense MR gear. If you're wearing HR Uragaan (And if you're having problems with MR Acidic Glavenus I suspect you haven't fought MR Uragaan), get yourself a set of Tigrex armor or something and you'll see your damage taken go down by a significant margin.
not really man, it is the lance weakness after all. you just gotta learn to deal with it and while you will never be like a dual blade, you can work it out.
being in a group using lance never stop being a bit annoying tough
