Yeah, because obviously the answer is to grind until you have min/maxed gear and then the game is balanced.

Hey, I hope you have defeated that smelly Tobi in the meanwhile. And no, there really should be zero grind at this stage of the game. The min/maxing stuff comes much later when you attempt to solo beasties like MR Kulve or Safi.

There is no need to go for specific sets now, just throw in a few pieces of MR equipment you can craft effortlessly, and your hunt should be no problem. For instance, I was using weird mixed armor sets until the end of the iceborn story content. But keeping your HR equipment really makes things much harder than they should be.
