If you want ppl, SOS can always be an option
Same with posting on the forums
in fact i think it might be more fun to play it solo (at least for the first chunk of story)
The Monsters scale to the number of hunters as well.
I still regularly play solo and now going through the atory with my son.
-----
Dont get me wrong MP can be a lot of.fun just hopping in mashing out a few monster then hopping out..
-----
In base MHW there are only 2 monsters that are always scaled to MP. Both are end game. Both can be done solo with a bit of skill and gearing.
If you have Iceborne they are stupid easy.
Light spoiler here but nothing you can find out for yourself the moment you open the quest board.
The FF cross over monster Behemoth is designed to be MP only. You can farm the parts and build the armor without ever beating it. And the Extreme version is only for a layered armor.
Before Iceborne beating this beastie solo was something a lot of hunters challneged themselves with. Personally im at 10 out of 14 weapons before I stopped. Was a great way to test, build sets and learn a new weapon.

KT or Kulve Taroth is the other MP hunt. It can be done solo but its a huge drag and takes a long time. This one I would heavily recommend getting people to help with. Its designed around the "raid " mechanic which was not a success.
Becuase the gear is still good easy to get people to help.
Again very very endgame even for Iceborne so can be skipped u til then.
Well worth looking up a guide how it works once you get there.
Alatreon isn't something I've seen anyone pull off solo either, though theoretically it should be possible. This is just me though, my skill level isn't the same as other individuals.
Just writing "Alatreon Solo" in YT search gave me plenty of videos.
otherwise make a post asking for tips
What's nice about MHW:I is that it's playable solo and multiplayer. I hope that not having other people to play with (for now) wouldn't deter you from trying the game. It's soooo worth it man
However you can expect frustration if you go into certain quests without any friends, I.E Kulve Taroth sieges and the like, as you'll be at the whim of randoms who join, and the quality of those varies wildly.
Game is quite easy in solo play, but I would say is perfectly configured for duo play with a single other player - however it can scale up to 3 people in a team, which also makes 4 players the easiest way to play, since if the whole team is competent you just destroy the monster no problem.
With the SOS flare you can join other players quests (matchmaking is kinda limited though, it only shows a small handful of available quests at any one time) or fire your own SOS flare to have players join you, at pretty much every opportunity. Randoms aren't generally very talkative, and some disconnection issues can always wreck your day, but otherwise it's a perfectly viable way to play through the game...and if you are social, you might even meet new friends!
