Do I need a squad or friends to enjoy this game?
Been wanting to get into MHW for a while now, but I've always been worried that I might need a squad or a team to make the game worthwhile. While it's currently on sale, I've really been contemplating getting it. Any advice?

Solo is always fine.
If you want ppl, SOS can always be an option
Same with posting on the forums

I beat the game mostly solo and now joining people sessions to help them, after i beat a monster at least once. You don't need a squad to enjoy it. Solo and co-op can be two different types of fun in this game.

no, you don't need a squad to enjoy the game
in fact i think it might be more fun to play it solo (at least for the first chunk of story)

Nope My rule was to beat every Monster solo before going off to do them in MP.

The Monsters scale to the number of hunters as well.

I still regularly play solo and now going through the atory with my son.

Dont get me wrong MP can be a lot of.fun just hopping in mashing out a few monster then hopping out..

-----

In base MHW there are only 2 monsters that are always scaled to MP. Both are end game. Both can be done solo with a bit of skill and gearing.

If you have Iceborne they are stupid easy.

Light spoiler here but nothing you can find out for yourself the moment you open the quest board.

The FF cross over monster Behemoth is designed to be MP only. You can farm the parts and build the armor without ever beating it. And the Extreme version is only for a layered armor.

Before Iceborne beating this beastie solo was something a lot of hunters challneged themselves with. Personally im at 10 out of 14 weapons before I stopped. Was a great way to test, build sets and learn a new weapon.

----

KT or Kulve Taroth is the other MP hunt. It can be done solo but its a huge drag and takes a long time. This one I would heavily recommend getting people to help with. Its designed around the "raid " mechanic which was not a success.

Becuase the gear is still good easy to get people to help.

Again very very endgame even for Iceborne so can be skipped u til then.

Well worth looking up a guide how it works once you get there.

Ragebrach is almost impossible solo: seems more luck than skill unless you have a team. I know it's possible but time, patience and effort seem to pale in comparison to the "git gud" curve that's required. Rajang needs no introduction, possible yet, but painful.
Alatreon isn't something I've seen anyone pull off solo either, though theoretically it should be possible. This is just me though, my skill level isn't the same as other individuals.

All 3 are way easier solo for me than with people, because other people keep screwing up and wasting carts. :P

You can enjoy it solo, but u need a skill, learn monster pattern, and some item to finish them, and mostly your play style. But i prefer with squad. Cause its give a lot of fun and sometimes we can do crazy things together while hunt.

I'd actually like to see a solo alatreon, and ragebrach. It may help me to watch other people's patterns and styles of doing it. Do you have videos of this for teaching purposes?

Dont have any vidoes but I have soloed Raging brachy a lot. Not sure i can teach much but I tend to build for survival in most fights. So for raging i have lvl 3 blast resistance, Divine blessing 3-5. While i might have a lot of hours in this game Im still get hit and cart so extra survival over a bit more dmg goes a long way for me

Nah, my PC isn't good enough too keep up with the game and recording at the same time, but there are plenty of YT videos of people doing Alatreon and other monsters solo.

Just writing "Alatreon Solo" in YT search gave me plenty of videos.

if you really want to you could always just search youtube for gameplay vids or speedruns or something. or a tutorial. pretty sure there's quite a few of those around lol
otherwise make a post asking for tips

No it is the other way round, most of the time during the main quest you solo. You party when you are grinding or just want to have fun.

Soloing rajang and ragebrach literally made me into a better hunter. After coming out of those fights with a win, finally, I instantly found myself being better at other monsters.

You can always use an SOS flare to call other players for help in missions. That's how I met my current group actually. They're a bunch of MR999 (highest rank in the game ever) who adopted and guided me through the game. Now my name's gold there like theirs

What's nice about MHW:I is that it's playable solo and multiplayer. I hope that not having other people to play with (for now) wouldn't deter you from trying the game. It's soooo worth it man

Having a good squad will always kick up your enjoyment to levels unobtainable by playing solo or with randoms, but you don't need one to enjoy the game, no.

However you can expect frustration if you go into certain quests without any friends, I.E Kulve Taroth sieges and the like, as you'll be at the whim of randoms who join, and the quality of those varies wildly.

Game is quite easy in solo play, but I would say is perfectly configured for duo play with a single other player - however it can scale up to 3 people in a team, which also makes 4 players the easiest way to play, since if the whole team is competent you just destroy the monster no problem.

With the SOS flare you can join other players quests (matchmaking is kinda limited though, it only shows a small handful of available quests at any one time) or fire your own SOS flare to have players join you, at pretty much every opportunity. Randoms aren't generally very talkative, and some disconnection issues can always wreck your day, but otherwise it's a perfectly viable way to play through the game...and if you are social, you might even meet new friends!
