attack boost & critical eye, Long sword
so just looking for opinions on my current build im a long sword user and looking for experience long sworders to tell me if im on the right track

critical eye 7
attack Boost 7
offensive guard 3
stun resistance 2
Speed sharpening 2
part breaker 1
consitution 1
quick shieth 1
Affinity Sliding 1

just wondering if this is what im meant to be looking for in a long sword build or if im going about damage the wrong way

also im a solo player, so i dont have to worry about interupting other players.

Edit

I'm up to the ice borne wyvern quest

If you want pure damage, just make sure you have these skills: critical eye, weakness exploit, critical boost, attack boost, agitator. It's pretty universal across all melee weapons.

If you want to try min maxing, look up some armor sets that speedrunners use. But it's really not necessary unless you want to compete for leaderboards, just grab whatever best you have available and you'll be good.

Offensive Guard does nothing for you as an LS hunter. While attack boost is a reliable source of damage, it's also the weakest damage boosting skill in relation to the investment. Try to prioritize Weakness Exploit 3, and get Health Boost 3 if you don't have it already. If you still have extra deco slots, Crit Boost is your next priority.

Longsword can't block so you can't activate offensive guard. Affinity Sliding is bad, so you should ignore that too.

Weakness Exploit, Critical Boost and Agitator take priority over Attack Boost.

Constitution and other stamina skills have no purpose on Long Sword.

Also you might want to add Health Boost in there, especially instead of Stun Resist, or you'll end up getting one-shot sooner or later.

Remove part breaker.
Remove constitution.
Remove quick sheath.
Remove Affinity sliding.
Remove Offensive guard.
Remove speed sharpening, go do the fishing event quest and get whetfish fin+
Stun resistance to 3 or don't bother,

The basic idea of getting good damage is to get as close as possible to 100% affinity (aka critical hit chance) and use critical boost 3 to make those critical hits do more damage. Usually, this is done using the skills that others have already mentioned.

That's the "logic" behind doing good damage in iceborne. Skills that increase your raw damage only come afterwards, if you have room for them.

Absolutely the wrong way

your priorities are in this order: Weakness exploit (aka wex. 50% affinity to wounded parts) > Critical eye > Agitator 5 (or 7) > critical boost 3 > peak performance (if you have augmented weapons) > coalescence lv 1 and then, finally attack boost (aka noob trap) lv 4 for some weapons with really low affinity if you want to use them

and you have to use math

for ex if you're using a weapon with 10% natural affinity

WEX will give you +50%, agitator 5 will give you 10% so you actually need 30% affinity from critical eye which is lv 6 to reach 100% affinity if you want to (80-90 isn't that bad imo)

if you're using 2 pieces of raging brachy and have agitator 7 you'll get 20% affinity from agitator so critical eye lv 4 is enough

Don't forget your defensive and utility skills. These can do more for your DPS than most offensive skills. Get hb3 and maybe some evade window.

OK with all this taken onboard can someone point me at a good set of armor to start with

Happens often if my footwork isn't on point tbh

I love how mhw changed skills in generall but i hate how it ruined some of the fun hunting was in the old games. Having the most damage is great and all but overrated. You shouldnt have to have all damage skills in a build just because it is the best option but instead work with other skills too to improve your comfort in a hunt. That is where the fun lies in my opinion. I always try to balance my builds between power and comfort. I love skills like speed eating and evade extender. Sure speed running is another story and if that is what you are looking for then use all damage skills by all means but if you just want to have fun playing I suggest trying other skills too even if that means that you will need one more strike to kill the monster.

A skill that I feel more ppl should run especially when still going through the story is stun resist lvl 3.

These days I find it rare that someone actually tries figuring something out for themselves and forming their own style that works for them, so Kudos to you. Everyone else generally needs to be held by the hand and led forward it seems. Gone are the days of uniqueness and playing whatever fits YOUR Personal style. We can only follow now..... A Meta can't be created. It can only be followed. Isn't that the rule of thumb?

What I can't figure out though. Is the populace being dumbed-down or is the majority being enlightened from all this? Too much crouch-kick-spam....
