FFS that -Guardian Armor- set is BS
I've heard a lot of negative things about this set and never gave it much thought.

A friend just started recently, so i down geared to help him out a bit and i can truly see all the frustration with this set.

They should have called this the "Carry Set" cause the damage the starting monsters do is laughable. I understand Capcom wanting to push people into Iceborne asap but giving new players gear that is so OP to beginning monsters is just going to bore them straight away. They even shove the set straight into your box right at the start without any work whatsoever to obtain.

I stood there and let Barroth go to town on me to see the damage and was absolutely disgusted.

It was made to reach iceborne real fast when starting out, but the thing is that it ruins base game if you use it, you don't really gain early game skills since it's just so op

There's always the option of not using it. New players who fall for the trap, will just get owned later on, over and over and over. It's strictly for people re-rolling to avoid farming to get to Iceborne.

well yeah, its op for making you progressing game faster afterall.

While this kind of thing is common in games which re-release with all of the DLC, I haven't seen a set of gear that confers this much of an early game advantage since Fallout New Vegas was released as a bundle on Steam.

Much as one could do in that game, it would be a good idea to leave it in the nearest chest or sell it as soon as possible if one does not want the challenge curve too badly mangled at the start of a play through.

If people used it as intended I.E equipment to fast track a returning player, a console to PC / PC to console player or someone with an alt account / secondary character, then it wouldn't be so much of a problem. They should have made the gear attached to an NPC who clearly states what it is designed for, with the fancy coloured text that they use in dialogue for special assignments, instead of just throwing it at them.

- "Hey Fiver! The boys over in the Old World have sent us a shipment of their latest Guild equipment. They said it was strictly for use to finish the journey faster so we can get to researching newer monsters, though! If you're not looking to leave your duties here behind any time soon, then you probably won't need it!"

- Defender / Guardian armour tutorial clearly explaining what it is pops up.

- Do you wish to enable Defender and Guardian super equipment on this profile? > Yes > No.

Or something like that lol. As it is, it's too easy for new players or whatever to just grab a hold of the gear and go to town thinking it's normal. Problem is you get accused of gatekeeping or elitism if you point it out, especially so if you're perceived as trying to tell someone else how to play their game, which is annoying.

I mean I'm grateful there's a nice player count at all so it's nice they have accessibility options and all that, but I kind of feel like the people who use Defender / Guardian stuff aren't the type of players who stick around for long.

I made an alt profile once with a friend and decided to run through vanilla a bit using Defender and Guardian stuff, and we killed a Rathalos in one of the early quests, can't remember if it was the Jagras or Kulu hunt quest, but yeah. I know we had "skill" to back ourselves up, but I don't think we'd have killed that Rathalos with base game gear, but we had no problem with the Guardian armour and an R1 Defender weapon lol. We walked right over the Anjanath wall like it was nothing.

The armour itself kind of loses usefulness around the time High Rank hits, but the weapon remains strong throughout the entire vanilla game, especially if you upgrade it as soon as you are able. Basic tree, no thinking or farming required, great for veterans who know how the game works but not so great for players needing to learn how to do stuff, anyway. I've seen a few threads where people ask why their maximum HP was lowered for no reason, and it's usually because they wore Guardian armour from the start and never learned what skills were until High Rank

Really, it's nice Capcom cared enough to offer a fast-track service for players to reach Iceborne content faster, they just needed to do it in a more obvious way so new players already overwhelmed with all of the mechanics, control clunkiness and arbitrary difficulty in the early game don't end up reaching for it out of desperation or something.

Guardian armor are for people who are more interested in the story.

Complete the game fast and uninstall the game. Convenient for players with below average skill.

Also, not all weapons type are equal. There are weapons designed for players with below average skill like HBG.

You notice CAPCOM name the Guardian armor "Guardian" instead of any obvious name which require less player skill? It is so as to not up sad those players.
