Amusingly: Sword and Shield is one of the best damage output weapons if you can learn to use it properly.
Don't know what whole "look at mah deeps" group would say, but I suspect it's either light bowgun with some stupid ammo (only tried defender once to see how it plays but it looked promising), dual swords (I guess depends on enemy and location you fight? my duo partner sometimes outdamages me by 5x and we are roughly at same tier of equipment) or charge blade (my personal pick) if you learn monster movement patterns and can predict where enemy will be 3 seconds later to actually hit his face for ~5% total health in single smash.
That said, when doing arena challenges I noticed switchblade (axe? you know the thing) also seemed to have pretty wild potential for consistent big damage bursts raising it's overall damage.

Scoped HBG, dual blades, aerial hammer, swaxe in a group, etc.

The fata gear removed the term glass cannon from the game, so you can do high dps with every weapon anyway

It shouldnt really matter unless youre running for time

HBG spread, Bow spread, and GS. Top 3 speedrunning weapons with HBG being the highest dmg one.

HBG and Bow for ranged, GS and SnS for melee, though as long as the monster "doesn't move" I would say SA and Dual Blades are really strong too.

Just look up what gun to use with each ammo type, it isn't bad. Set up a radial menu for crafting and you're good to go.

Nothing beats HBG spread. Other than that play what You want imo.

and HBG isn't exactly long range fight if you go for the meta. You're using shotty + scoped at point blank range to get optimal dmg. Not the most fun playstyle but it beats every other weapons by a mile

Just had a look at HBG bulids and spread is that OP

Still you do move quite slow and it looks like its really hard to dodge with HBG

also i use keyboard and mouse to play MHW so to scroll through my items i use scroll whell but with ranged i have to CTRL scroll doesnt seem like abig deal but takes some getting use to

Depending on the Monster and how aggressive it is, the Lance is a good contender since you'll always be poking/counter poking it while everyone else either has to dodge or re position.

If you're looking to turn your brain off and not really pay attention to what monster you're fighting Spread+Shield HBG is an auto-win weapon with stupidly high DPS and a stupidly low skill ceiling. You know how some people say "meta" still requires skill? That's not an issue with this playstyle. You just pull the trigger and win. You'll be saying "Da-haha, monstew faw dawn." and getting that pat on the head by the Commander like the pros in no time! And I mean seriously no time. From the moment you pick up the weapon everything up until Fatalis is basically the same fight, rinse and repeat.

Spread 3 HBG: once properly builded, it has the highest sustained DPS of all the 14 weapons.
Disregard shield build, comfort and sanity: go full glass cannon and you will reduce tempered elders to slag.
To elaborate: somewhat recently, I completed a tempered teostra with a 4 HBG team in 2'29''... and we were using pre-Fatalis gear.
Looking forward to an improved try. ;)
