Your statement makes absolutely no sense. I find it funny that people associate "cheat" with dps overlay. By definition the word "cheat" is "gaining an advantage over others through dishonest or unfair way". Sure, using the overlay is unfair, but what advantage does the overlay user gain over other player? How exactly does knowing how much hp or dps other player deals create an "advantage" for the overlay user?
Also, what if OP is a solo player? Then by the definition of the word "cheat", your statement further makes zero sense because there isn't anyone he can gain an advantage on.
To OP's question,
try using borderless window. Some overlay don't work well (or may not work at all) unless your display is set to this option.
Single player games can have cheats.
