You can't copyright a common latin word like that.
There's a game that outright uses the word, long before Monster Hunter franchise first used it: Arx Fatalis. It's the name of the game. It means "Fortress of Fate/Destiny."
But yea, i believe that naming someome or something "Fatalis" cannot be copyrighted by Capcom. But if someome would magically make a black-dragon-world-destroyer and name him Fatalis... Well lets just say, this would not be a coincidence.
