Weird question
I was wondering about something lately.
So, fatalis is a word in Latin. But its gets me wonder... Does the "Fatalis" word is copyrighted by Capcom or only the dragon itself?

Words cannot be copyrighted.
Single* words.
So... words? Words means words in general, not necessarily a combination of words.

edit: which i guess would explain why you clarified, thought you were correcting me so i got tilted, sorry about that

Slogans are words and those can be copyrighted. Lyrics are words and those are also copyrighted. It even says so on the link you posted:

“No, copyright protection does not exist for single words or even short phrases”

I always loved the name Fatalis. Would be cool to see another suspecies or variant called Brutalis, or something.

Well, I didn't think you would refresh so I totally expected you to reply before you could even see the edit. That's on me.

Fatalis is a common latin word. It means "of fate." (It does NOT mean fatal, mind.)

You can't copyright a common latin word like that.

There's a game that outright uses the word, long before Monster Hunter franchise first used it: Arx Fatalis. It's the name of the game. It means "Fortress of Fate/Destiny."

Yea, i have seen that game too. And that basically put me into questioning.
But yea, i believe that naming someome or something "Fatalis" cannot be copyrighted by Capcom. But if someome would magically make a black-dragon-world-destroyer and name him Fatalis... Well lets just say, this would not be a coincidence.
