For pushing him closer to monster
Lightning (row by row) and ice breath (cone shape) does that as well. You're going to eat all the chip damage and the knockback will push you even farther away from alatreon if you face tank it.
Didn't know it has 360-degree coverage angle.
Thanks for the clarification, mates!
My first thought, Dash Guard provide 360-degrees protection started from the start of jumping animation, well its not.. Only at the end of jumping when the shield is up.
In the YT clip, hunter seems stand still guarding with its back open to breath attack, and then always doing Power Guard afterward? Lance can only do Power Guard from Counter Thrust, right?
Soo, its actually Counter Thrust (RT+B) then?
Can you point with a mm:ss format to know what you are talking about ?
For example, at 4:30, he totally does a power guard after his guard.
Yes, he's blocking backward to get closer to the monster. If you block his ice breath attack for example, you would be yeeted across the arena (although here he just decide to ignore it completely by just health tanking which is a good solution when you have the right gear).
Theorically, the only guard where there's a 360-degress protection is with the "power guard".
BUT, some attacks from monster can be blocked with a simple "guard" or a counter thrust from any angle for some reason. I feel like it is more the case since Iceborne (I may be wrong though)
PS : it's really weird watching him, I play a lot like him except my positioning is bad.
Hello,
Yes. 4.30 is one of the tricky guard. Another are at 2.20 and 4.45.
So you're saying dash guard doesn't provide 360-degrees coverage? Haven't check this, so I'm not sure.
Well, at least I'm convinced that the tricky guard he exploited is Counter Thrust, and its somehow provide 360-degrees protection against flying Alatreon frontal breath. Don't know if its also work with Kulve's since she has similar breath.
So its actually Normal Guard, followed by Power Guard!
But there's little mechanic in this.
The hunter needs to receive a moderate to heavy knockback from normal guard, only then Power Guard accessible.
I practiced using barrel in training area, by having no Iron Wall skill to emulates the needed knockback.
It was a success! From heavy knockback, I can initiates Power Guard.
And I can no longer initiates Power Guard after having Iron Wall x3 equipped back
When I tried to Power Guard after less knockback, my hunter will just hop back.
But still, its a daredevil move to use it like the YT clip.
Or is it a common knowledge to a Master Lancer to block like that lol
Oh yeah, he does that at 2:18. It's one of those things that are natural when you play, but then you forgot when you talk about it.
The guard here count like a "move", and you can link that to a power guard.
I don't think you should lower you "guard" against all monster though (I mean Iron wall decoration skill). There are still a lot of them which are better fighting with "guard 5".
I'm saying that but I don't know if you were just talking about the training area.
It becomes natural the more you play.
Ikr ? You discover this by "messing up" guarding in the wrong direction and somehow ... nope, blocked it. I then found myself trying to guard in the wrong direction to see if it worked and if there were a better way to kill a monster.
