A lot of rathalos attacks are pretty telegraphed making them easy to foresight slash. Use a long range weapon if you have trouble.

I think it's decently clear that OP is used to being carried. I mean, the only time a Rathalos is required is for the assigned quest, and it isn't hard to imagine someone decimating a LR Rathalos for them. It's possible this is the first time they really had to face a Rathalos, and even with its neutered moveset it's too "hardcore" for them to handle.
