monster hunter MMO
why has capcom never tried this? seems like it could be a fun and profitable spin-off to the series if done right.

Yeah, and they could call it Monster Hunter Online or Monster Hunter Frontier.

That's because they were Japan only. Now considering worlds success, they could release another or revive the others and release it world wide.
Although I am not a fan of MMO games really.

They even tried turning world into an mmo. With the final few battles having mmo like mechanics.

Don’t know what you’re on about. But I like my monster hunter non-mmo.

hence why Rise is gonna be a good back to basics for a lot of people.

sure people will say "i dun wanna buy a dumb handheld console when i got muh PC" but, its monster hunter, heck i bought a PS4 for this because i didnt want to wait a year and have everything spoiled on the web. though i didnt buy the DLC twice, smarter than that i waited the second time around.

There was a "Monster Hunter" MMO that you can play in English. Most of it was "inspired" from Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
HUNTER BLADE! Totally not a Monster Hunter rip off.

The game had mounts you can ride around. That was a neat feature.

They did but it was japan only so those games are now dead.
The mmo genre is dying so it's unlikely that capcom would spend money on it.

Actually, isn't MHW already rather MMO-ish?

I mean all that's left is to show more than 16 players walking all over Astera and Seliana with some spamming chat or something and it's MMO already. Also, to lock weapons and armor behind HR and MR ranks so people will keep grinding non-stop.

We already have the SOS system for a quick matchmake.

Monster Hunter won't really work well if more than 4 people are in a match though. Just imagine the lag and everyone flinching each other to death or everyone destroying the monster by KOing it non-stop..hahaha

Anyway, not every game fits into a genre. I think they already tried in Japan and China (MH Frontier and MH Online I think) and I believe both didn't stick. So, probably won't be seeing one any time soon.

It's not MMO. MMO is Massive Multiplayer Online. A siege is 16 people. A runescape server is 2000 people. MHW isnt MMO.
