How weapon transmog works?
Haven't tried this since it was implemented. Overall the system is clear and similar to armor transmog but i have one question. That "base and part" thing. Why i can't transmog some weapons? For example i can transmog my GS to many others (with "unique" prefix) but some of 'em just not available (all GSs with "part" prefix) and it says something like "this part cannot be used with that base. Change base 1st". But how i can do it? I can only revert my GS to it's original base. Thanks for any help!

While it does cost points to keep retrying, you lose no parts when you remove layers, so you can swap them around until you figure it out.

In general for the weapons I have tried, it seems pretty much like if you put on a base that is from the metal trees for the weapon, then the parts that can attach are generally from the metal also. Same for the bone style. There just doesn't seem to be much crossover on the layers.

When it says to change your base, it means to transmog your unique GS default look into a basic model to use parts on. So Iron, Bone, Lunastra, Taroth, and Kjarr bases.

'Unique' skins change the entire model of the weapon, they cannot add a 'Part' because 'Unique' and 'Part' skins aren't designed to mesh properly.

If the weapon's default look is that of a 'Unique' skin, then you will not be able to change the 'Part' unless you change the look to a 'Base' (Ore, Bone, etc.) first, which will then let you add and change the layered 'Part'.

It lets you turn weapons into other weapons (of the same type) essentially, at the cost of some materials. It functions like an augment, but you can refund it all as you change your mind, everything except the RP cost anyway.

For the most part it means you can use an ugly weapon such as a Glavenus Greatsword and make it look like a pretty weapon such as the Wyvern Ignition, etc.

You can also combine the non-unique base models (the various variants of Ore and Bone versions of the weapon) with non-unique materials, sometimes combining the two can make some actually decent looking weapons, I.E combining a Lunastra (base) which is light blue with say, Legiana (parts), or a Kjarr (base) which is gold with Uragaan (parts) which are also goldy brass, or something like that anyway. I mean I've never done that but it might look good and it's probably a little bit more unique than...something else? lol

Some weapons, like Light Bowguns and the like, also let you layer mods onto them without actually using mods, which means you could equip shields on your HBG and then layer them to be removed so you just have the plain weapon, etc. You can also change the barrel between Suppressor and Long Barrel (or neither) versions. Not sure if you can remove / add other stuff like ammo belts and laser sights though, not much of an LBG user.

Unique weapons (ones not based on Bone or Ore) would need to be layered into a base variant first, before you could layer the parts onto it. You can't add parts to a "unique" model, parts were just where Capcom was lazy and didn't make a unique looking weapon for each individual monster, instead just sticking a few pieces of them to a generic base.

So you can't add Barroth parts to a Wyvern Ignition Greatsword, you'd need to turn your Wyvern Ignition into a base Ore or Bone weapon and then you can add parts, as parts are only for application on base weapons.

Hope that makes sense anyway lol
