2. Coral Highlands (it's pretty, has some nice wide open spaces and elevation changes, and some interesting underground and hidden caveworks, but it doesn't make proper use of all its areas)
3. Elders Recess (only some areas, for being wide open flat arenas like the days of old, but the upper areas and the lava areas suck, and the dropping crystals in Nergigantes nest can bite me)
4. Hoarfrost Reach (snow will never be bad, although it's not as vertical as I hoped, I enjoy their attempts at making different zones distinct I.E the zone with the ice water than inflicts iceblight if you stand in it, or the zone with the ice sheets that tremor you, etc)
5. Guiding Lands (it's neat I guess, everything in one place, but confusing connections between zones takes away a lot of the fun, and monsters tend to behave oddly sometimes)
6. Rotten Vale (it's too small, the upper area is basically just one long slide that should have just been an extension of Coral Highlands, with the evil toxic swamp and acid being a whole new themed region instead)
7. Ancient Forest (it's over designed, tree should be the center not the "North" part of the map with everything around it, also it makes the other maps feel plain in a lot of ways, not to mention the tangled mess in the center with no real simple routes into it, this is THE map with the most annoying flying enemies deciding to go from one side of the map to the other, camps alleviate the problem but damn, it's annoying)
Ancient Forest is an abomination of a map that feels convoluted and massive for the sake of being convoluted and massive. Also its theme is trash.
2.Coral Highlands. It looks pretty. Nice use of elevator mechanics with Glider mantle. It was the only map u would consider using glider mantle pre-iceborne. Has a lot of unique hidden areas if you like exploring.
3. Elders recess. Has got some interesting areas with slopes and crystal walls/pillars. Free crystal burst littered around.
4.Rotten Vale. Not much to compliment here. It's just meh. RIP peak performance.
5.Guiding Lands. I had mixed feelings about this at release. I feel like the terrain utilisation was underwhelming. The potential was there, but lacks execution.
6. Hoarfrost Reach. This map.... Its an exercise in frustration. Fighting over the frozen lake causes tremor. In some areas the ice would break off, causing you to fall to the depths of hell. It's got some interesting hidden areas at the top, but other than that, terrain was not well utilised
7. Ancient Forest. This map is a maze. Spent a good portion of my time looking for the monsters when it flies away during first play through. Scout flies would constantly disappear when u pass by random small jagras. NEVER want to see this map in future installments.
1. wildspire
2. recess
3. the kulve battle area, but only the second zone specifically (the one with the big slide...)
5. hoarfrost
9. rotten vale
12. forest
16. coral
20. guiding lands
Hammer is fun
2. Ancient Forest: I've always wanted a massive area, and this nails it. I'm also a sucker for more tropical areas.
3. Coral Highlands: It was really neat, i just wish there was more to hunt at the lower levels.
4. Hoarfrost: Beautiful locale
5: Rotten Vale: Was an amazing take on a monster graveyard
6: Wildspire Wastes: Lost potential. Half of the area is really only used for two monsters, everything else is at the cave and the north desert. Also, it was kinda bland in design, I was hping for more mud flats and possibly even salt flats.
7: Elder's Recess: This was the biggest loss in potential ever. Concept art had it be much more crazy, and have it be much more apparent elders lived there. Instead we got basalt with giant crystals.
I hate it so much there are no words. Most Namielle runs for the crown start with me dropped by the drake on the mountain next to her, fight, she *insists* to run away to the bottom near camp12, and then couple hits later she skulls and insists to fly back up to the mountain again. And due to Iceborne Flash Pod nerfs and monsters now being so damn persistent about running away even if you flinch them or knock them down, unless I can finish her there, she's going to get away.
Also like 80% of the map is just stuff that doesn't exist? There's all these secret caves and mushroom platform areas, where of course monsters won't fit too well, but most of the map you won't see unless you do the sidequests.
Rest are kind of a mishmash. Forest feels a bit too big like they spent most of their time on that area, then didn't care to put as much effort to the rest of the game. Hency why it towers above all the rest as the best.
Also the ranking is based on aesthetics, monsters or something else?
2. Special Arena: Saves me the trouble of chasing after the monster. Comes with a big rock & dragonator :)
3. Seliana Supply Cache: Same as above. Also, comes with dragonrazer & roaming ballista.
4. Castle Schrade: A near-perfect remake of the OG map. An all-u-can-eat buffet of special weapons. Also, Dragonator. Noice.
5. Everstream: Has Dragonator. Cool. Only fight Zorah. No.
6. The rest: WHERE'S MY DRAGONATOR?? :(
